Customers shouldn't need to pay for the workers wages, that is not our deal. It is the responsibility of the establishment. Yes I agree that we can choose to reward the wait staff base on their service, but we should also be able to choose not to. A tip, being a gratuity is something EXTRA we give for good service, NOT something you are EXPECTED to give.

I agree totally. The restaurant owners assume that the waitstaff will get tips, so they can somehow get away with giving them less than minimum wage. Knowing that my girlfriends at Namebrand Italian Chain make only $3.00 an hour "plus tips" makes me afraid to withhold a tip for anything other than blatant rudeness and terrible service. I think it's amazing that owners can get away with that.

where I live waitstaff has the same minimum wage as everyone else, so what I don't understand is who decided whose job deserves tip and who's doesn;t...I mean there a lot of people working minimum jobs that do way more work and harder customer service and no one tips them...

You ask the same question in many ways...and it is getting boring. If you do not want to tip, don't. I would suggest that you go to the management and ask them to raise your check the 20-25% they would raise it if they had to pay their servers a competative wage.

Leave up to the state's governments and the minium wage rate is around eight dollars an hour.
