The first NASCAR race was at Charlotte 6/19/49.This was a centralized area for the various drivers(Georgia,Alabama,Virginia,ECT...) as well as drivers from the Carolinas.
Later It became the hub of NASCAR and the teams setteled in and around Charlotte.

What race are you talking about? First what? Are you talking about the All Star race? If that is what you are talking about, it in in Charlotte because it is "home". They travel enough, and it was a fun way to spend an off-week and reward the race winners. It has been held at a track other than Lowe's only once. Atlanta in 1986, Bill Elliott won.
