It is horrible in this country that I actually heard on a college campus in 1998 a student say "...everyone born in this country is Christian". The two Pagans and the one Jew were not happy with her ignorance. Yes the majority in this country are Christians either by choice or by force, [if your parents did not let you pick your religion you were forced into the one you practice even if you think you are happy in it], but there are many, many people who believe strongly and are very religious/spiritual that are not Christian. Some of us knew we were not Christian when we read the Bible.

Exactly and I will repeat an answer from another question.

What blows my mind is that the Heading of this section is "Religion and Spirituality" which includes all religions and forms of spiritual beliefs.

Yet some how a lot ( Not All) Christians seem to feel this is a Christian section and all other religions and spiritual beliefs are some form of invaders.

What's up with that??

Most likely because Christianity is all over the tv and radio.
There are more shows of Christian nature than Islam or Jew or Buddist or Wicca [including straight-out religious shows] in the general market.
Also there seem to be more schools that cater to only Christianity, Judism, or Islam.
Also there are enough former Christians [either in another mainstream religion, or one of the many Pagan traditions] that are around and have had Christianity influencing them.
I also know of many family groupings that are mixed in their religions that they practice or that they identify with.
Personally I don't automatically think that the question will be about Christians.
I have Christians, Atheists, Agnostics, Buddists, Wiccans, Norse, Native American, and other Pagans and Heathens, and religious leanings amoung my family and friends.

People piss me off saying that the United States is a "Christian country" and it's Christians who say that. How can the United States be a Christian country when we have freedom of religion? That is why I think people think every religious matter is involving Christianity. It is the most popular religion in the United States...unfortunately. And as much as I disagree with the people that say the U.S. is a Christian country, it's kind of obvious that although we are supposed to have freedom of religion, the U.S. is ruled by Christianity in many, many ways.

Oh, and for the people saying there are no instances where Christianity is forced -- yes, there are. I am one of them.

Because the majority of people in the United States believe in Christianity, Thats just a fact.

They are not the only situation where a parent "forces" there beliefs on a child.

when an atheist tells a child there is no god, they are too forcing what they believe on them.

Religion is a choice made by every single adult individually, and usually the basis of it is because they have a "religious" experience.

Because 75-80% of America is christian. So people usually think about the majority. And the majority being the majority believe the minority should just disappear. We're a thorn in their side.

Because the US is a Christian Nation. Something like 86% (it was much higher before the advent of Liberalism and postmodern thought) self identify as Christian. Just your tough luck to be born in the US and no be a Christian.

it's the majority. that's the problem in todays society. people make general statments and don't realize that some people get offended by it. if there was only 100 people in a country and 99 of them were christian and the 1 person wasn't doesn't mean that a person can state that the people of that country are christian. people need to care more that words can hurt people. people need to learn to think before they speak

Simple answer, Christianity is the most popular religion in the USA. But why be upset, it's only an assumption of others, I'm sure they meant no harm.

Because unless it is specified that the question is not about Christianity, it is assumed that it is. Christians are the majority in the USA.
