How to Bake a Sweet Potato
1 serving
1 9-12 oz sweet potato or yam
Pre-heat the oven to 350° to 375°. Wash the potato lightly to remove dirt without breaking the skin then dry with a paper towel. Pierce the skin a couple of times with a fork to allow steam to escape and prevent possible bursting in oven.
If you wish to eat the skin (as I do), the skin may be coated lightly with some butter or a vegetable oil. DO NOT wrap in foil as you will get a soggy potato (the steam didn't escape) instead of the desired texture.
Place potato(s) on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake for 45-55 minutes (depending on the size of the potato). Test potato for doneness by squeezing gently...if done the potato will be slightly soft.
Serve immediately. Also, I like to make an extra potato so I can cool it in the refrigerator for later... wrap a paper towel partly around a cold potato and eat it as a nutritious snack.
Temperature and Results: Minutes Results
45 a bit too firm - good for salads
50 slightly firm - good eating
55 soft - good for mashed
Or, wrap a large yam (14-16 oz) in foil and bake in a pre-heated 400° for about 1 hour (until tender).
I hope this was helpful,Take Care!!! :)

Sweet Potatoes Recipe courtesy of Gourmet Magazine
1 medium sweet potato
Scrub sweet potato clean and pierce all over with a fork. Place sweet potato on a foil-lined sheet pan and bake in a 350 degree F. oven for 1 hour, turning after 30 minutes, or until tender when poked with a fork. Cool sweet potato completely. Peel sweet potato, cut into chunks and pass through a food mill or puree in a food processor. Add tablespoons of water until desired consistency is reached.

Hi there.
wash your potatoes
put them in the oven on 400 for about 30 minutes
cut them open from one end to the other the long way with a strip about 1/4 inch wide
take out the inside of the sweet potatoe and put it in a bowl
mix the insides that you have removed with butter and marshmallows
put it back into the potatoe
put all potatoes into a baking pan side by side
put more marshmallows, butter, dark brown sugar and chopped walnuts on the top of the potatoes
bake them uncovered on 425 degrees for 20 minutes.
They will be melted and soft.
Enjoy

I use the mircowave for my sweet potatoes. Wash and scrub the sweet potatoe, put cooking oil all over potatoe and wrap with a paper towel, use the setting for baked potatoes on your microwave or put power on for 5 minutes (depending on the size of the potatoe) after 5min check to see if soft if not put back in microwave for another few minutes.

one of the best ways to cook a sweet potato, is to peel and slice the potato. then take the slices and put them In a pan with olive oil. toss until slightly browned. it's a great low fat treat, like sweet potato french fries. :)

You clean it, and make a few slices in it, then:
a. wrap it up in tinfoil and bake it in the oven.
b. wrap in up in plastic wrap and microwave it.
Some of those are pretty big and can take awhile. I'm thinking maybe 10+ minutes in the microwave, and quite a bit longer in a conventional oven.

Wrap them in aluminum foil and place in the toaster oven or oven at 325 for 20 -25 minutes, longer if you want it to be very soft. Yum! I mean Yam!
