I've heard that Saint Isidore of Seville, who died in 636, is the patron saint of computers. How can you be the patron saint of something that came along 1300 years after your death? Do they draw lots in Heaven or something?

He was declared such by the Pope in 1999. Maybe because Isidore was always reading and treasured the search for knowledge.

St. Clare was named patron of television, because she was reported to have seen religious visions and images on her wall centuries before television was invented. She was too old and ill to attend Mass, but could see the services on her wall. As for St. Isidore, he was a strong promoter of science and technology.

Well, to be accurate, he's the patron saint of the internet. And they have computers in heaven. Long time.

Drawing lots seems to be a logical fit when you consider some of the other things. I like what Bill Maher said about the bible once: "It sounds as if it was started like a game of Mad Libs. Then you end up with stuff like, "And woman was created from a.... RIB!"

(Just a lil humor, not trying to take any cheap shots. I like that joke.)
