Using Limewire, Morpheus, Bearshare or any other P2P file sharing program such as Kaaza or Bearshare, to steal any copyrighted music, movies, software etc. without paying, in illegal in the USA.
The software itself is legal. What most people use the software for is not. Think of a gun. Owning a gun is legal, shooting people with it is not.
It is very rare, but people do get sued and fined for using these P2P programs. Such as this girl here:

Also, many of the files that are downloaded using these programs are bundled with viruses, trojans, spyware, and adware. Always scan everything you download using any P2P program with your anti-virus and anti-spyware software before you use then.

Limewire itself is legal, but sharing of copyrighted content is what will get ya.

having limewire is not a crime. using it to download songs or other media which are protected by copyright is illeagal. a number of students at my university (central michigan) were recently charged for downloading illegally and are now being forced to pay for all the songs they downloaded. use at your own risk.

The software is legal...Just turn off sharing on the files you download...

The software is legal its illegial to download files that you dont own on it though

it depends on if u pay for it or not...free downloading is technically illegal but they have an option where u can pay and that one is legal
