No, my brother!
with confident I answer you! I was (and I am) studying Yoga and buddism for many years. They don't believe that eating meat gather (negative) karma, swami satyananda that established the first international yoga school (Bihar school) adhere to this idea that our body is build to digest meat too, and the universal law confirms this. Our body needs meat. But meat in balance. Holy prophet mohammad (peace be upon him) says:
"If you didn't eat meat for 40 days, SO you must eat it even if you have to borrow money for buying meat, but don't eat meat every day because it makes you callous (it makes your heart stoney)"
So accpet this from an experienced yogist that meat does not hurt you. it's only your ideas, acts and thinking that can absorb negative or positive karma for you.

Karma is a science. There is an equal an opposite reaction to every action. Try to think of it on an atomic level. Try to think of it as the positive and negative charge in electricity. Energy is never destroyed. Energy goes on forever.
To do good is a positive force. When we do good we are at least acting in line with the true positive aspect of our eternal being. When someone does bad they are losing touch with the eternal positive being. Therefore, those who do bad could fall into inauspiciousness in this life or in the next.
If the cow or ox has died of natural causes and not of human hand or device then there is little or no karma. That is if you are convinced you need meat for nutrition. But, today's research has showed us many studies pointing to the fact and possibility that we do not need any meat in our diet.
Also consider the intelligence of the creature. The cow and pig are so much more intelligent than shrimp and that sort of thing. We are getting more negative inauspicious karma by eating cow or pig.
Just the whole idea of cutting some creature's throat is gruesome. Perhaps this desensitizes us to the idea of hurting other human being under certain circumstances.

Eat for survival, not more nor less. Too much of anything is trouble, except for bliss.
Eating is action, any action is a Karma. Any action has equal and opposite reaction. If reaction is good then good luck and if bad then bad luck.
We see lot of chemicals reacting eachother. When some chemicals get together they explode. So what we eat matters, take for example alcohol on over consumption, nerves are lossened they fail to function.
So is any food when consumed has some effect on the body and mind. I think I have answered sufiiciently. There is no harm in meat eating for survival.

I think it would only give someone bad Karma if they intentionally tortured the animal first. Ideally we could give all the cows and chickens and whatever a happy life until we killed them and ate them. But it is impractical in most modern society for people to raise their own food.
Everything has to die sometime. I know I personally would rather suffer a quick painful death than a long lingering hope dispellingly painful death. And if at all possible I would like to know that my death accomplished something good.
Of course the best is to just wake up dead but our food usually doesn't get that. I mean how many of us would want to eat something that just up and died.

I believe that if you are able to believe in a concept like karma then you are able to believe that eating meat somehow disturbs a personal energy that can alter the outcome of future personal events.

Like native people all over the world I thank the animal for the bounty of it's flesh and apologize for it's death then I pour on the ketchup and dig in.
