Makes sense to me - they have actual experience of persecution - the faith folk round here just have ancestral persecution complex. I'd be willing to bet the ones who live places where it's dangerous to believe would be the most charitable ones here.

Well here's the thing. When you went to the "alternate lifestle place, where you nice to them and did you accept them for who the were? Probably.
First of all, not all Christians want to "change all the laws" or are trying to judge you, or whatever else Christians are trying to do.
Also, a lot people get mad at us because we believe that the only way to heaven is through Jesus and that if you don't choose Him you'll go to hell.
I have to say we're pretty unhappy about that as well. We'd like to see you not go.
I believe in a God that loves everyone including those who don't love him.
I never said you couldn't post here and I'm a Christian. All we ask as that you show us the same decency that you showed the alternate lifestyle folks.

I bet if you insulted them daily, then they might just tell you to get lost. (I am not suggesting that you have insulted anyone) but a lot of Atheists and Christians on here have insulted one another and I have seen people of both groups saying the other doesn't belong here.
Just today someone said any bible questions should be in the Folklore and Mythology section.
i myself think everyone is welcome in any section.

People who have experienced great intolerance are usually much more accepting and open to others. I have been in that section and for the most part a very welcoming group.
I am also straight by the way.
Of course, I Iike to discuss things whether they fit with my beliefs or not. I do not bash anyones beliefs.

Laptop Jesus, you're welcome anywhere. And besides, we tasted rejection and bigotry and we know what do they mean, so the last we'll do is to reject others (That's what the rainbow stands for :-D). If a person is polite with me, I don't give a damn about what he/she believes in, their sexual orientation, gender, race etc. These are all superficial things. And believe me, Atheists are usually much more understanding than the average Joe Christian.

I've met a few hateful and bigoted homosexuals. However, they are in the minority (of the minority).
Anyway, many gay people just love people. I know that sounds like a generalization, but I find that gays, especially gay men, embrace others without judgment. It's beautiful, really.

You can be where ever you want to be. I can be in the middle of a snake-pit, if I so desire. I just don't feel the need to do so in order to make a point or become "one" with the serpents.
Being the victim of rape by a gay man when I was 12 years old means that I have nothing in common with gay or lesbian people. Ever. My choice.

i don't find it odd that they welcome outsiders, but i do find it odd that Christians don't
I'm pagan and we welcome people of all faiths including Christians to attend our events. we have many gay people in our communities, probably because we aren't so judgmental. my daughter's best friend is christian and her parents let her come to some rituals. my son's best friend is Jewish, we went to his bar miztvah, and my best friend is atheist.
