I use to to be the same as you. I am 6'3 and when I was 16 I was at 130 with a 26" waist.
I was like that well into my 30's. Now I am 210 with body fat of 6%. My waist is 30" I am the strongest and in the best shape of my life. I am 43 and workout all the time. I compete in Natural bodybuilding.
To gain weight you will need to really change you diet.
Drink a lot of protein shakes. Mix in them with the protein powder, 2 raw eggs, A teaspoon of natural peanut butter, a tablespoon of corn syrup. Drink at least 3 of these a day and more on your workout days.
Workout doing a weight program, Find one on Bodybuilding.com.
Don't do any cardio, You will just burn off to many calories.
Don't try to gain a lot of weight at once. No more than 2 pounds a week or most will be fat. You want lean muscle so it will be slow. Stick to your plan and you will see results. Again, I can't stress enough, No cardio!

You can go to GNC and buy weight gainer and take that before bed. Also, you need to eat a lot of meals high in protein (grilled chicken, eggs, etc.) Don't go the obvious approach of binging on candy, chocolate, junkfood, etc because that is just wasted calories that turn into fat. You want to gain weight but not all fatty weight. Also keep in mind that it will take time - you need to keep at it and not get frustrated if you don't see results right away. My advice to you is to eat eat eat...but eat healthy.

It is hard to put on weight, even if you eat like crazy. The way to do it is to eat a lot, especially protein, and exercise, especially with weight lifting. You will add muscle, and muscle adds to your size and body weight. It will happen gradually. Here is a page that may give some useful info: http://www.dietitian.com/underwei.html
Weight gain supplements add fat, not muscle -- you are better off with exercise and lots of normal food.

you have to start by eating more food. you wont gain weight if you dont eat enough. good choices are pasta, oatmeal, rice, potatoes, along with chicken, steak, eggs, yogurt, along with fruits and veggies. now start eating!!! then, start going to the gym and weight training. concentrate on compound lifts such as bench press, military press, squats, barbell rows, pullups, etc. and after that, eat more food!!!!
