psalms 14:1

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good." (KJV)

Does that mean that according to the bible all atheists are fools, including scientists some of us owe our lives to?

Does it mean that when Warren Buffett donates 37 Billion to charity it's abominable and he still doethn't do good?

Isn't that what the verse says? Is that what you believe?

gratvol - if the bible includes bits that are outdated and no longer correct, isn't it a terrible oversight on the part of your god to have them put in there?

cowmoomoo - you dodged the question. I did not ask about heaven.

The Bible is a book of myths that tries to validate itself with itself--& although it contains many self-evident truths--it is nonetheless outdated in many of it's laws--like stoning people to death--or women having to cover their head with veils.

That is why it is dangerous to take everything you read, including the Bible, literally.

First there were the many different copies and stories handed down verbally and scribed before being "approved" and edited by churches and popes. Also, if you give a copy of the Bible to every person on the planet and have them read cover to cover with NO outside interference or stimulus, they will each have their own interpretation.

TRUE Christianity is about love, tolerance, compassion and being a good, kind person. Treating others as you wish to be treated and having a personal relationship with God. I say that's true Christianity because I believe that's what Jesus taught. The Bible is a good history book and has some good stuff in it, but it's not the end all. The love in our hearts is.

Excellent question. Thanks :)

"The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.' They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good." (NIV) First link.

Yes, you have it right. It means anyone and everyone who rejects the Lord is a fool: scientists, atheists, politicians, religious figures, etc. Anyone.

Consider what you said about Warren Buffett. Is that generous act not "good" to us humans? Yes, it's awesome. However, there's a bit of a catch -- the money really isn't going too far away. Second link.

Another verse you might enjoy is this: "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Third link.

God is truth. God is the source of wisdom and morality.
How could anyone be truly wise if he does not consult the source of all wisdom?

Dig a little - it is indeed foolish to deny that there is a God. As for doing good here, this does not mean "good deeds;" it merely means there is no one who does not practice evil, or in other words, there is no one who is truly good." When Warren Buffet donated his money, he did a good thing (assuming the charities were reputable and responsible) but he did not attone for his sin in doing so, and if he does not believe, then he is a fool. Scientists can do good, yet be fools. Isn't that what an educated idiot is? Haven't you met some brilliant people who were socially inept? How can this be, if science makes them wise? The truth is, it doesn't. They have gifts given them by God (for which we ought to be grateful) and they foolishly deny Him.

The verse does not say what you are indicating, and I don't believe as you have written.

The point of the scripture is that you need God. Most unbelievers say that they do not need God or do not believe that He exist. They think they are okay as they are. I've seen the bumper sticker that states "Born right the first time."

The Psalm is telling you what a foolish way to think. You need God because you are a sinner and nothing good that you do will make you righteous in the eyes of God. Only the covering of the blood of Jesus is acceptable righteousness to God.

Yes. It takes a fool to look around at the majesty of God's creation and say "there is no God except for me". Everything science has done has been what God has ordained.
As for works, they can be good or ill, but works do nothing but make us a good/bad person to others. Only choosing Christ saves you. HE loves us enough to have died for us, yet still we turn away. Please read Romans 3:23-3:26.

Not just atheists. Because there are "So called" christians who say they are christians but are not Meaning, Just because they say they are a christian doesn't mean they are one. If you look up the word fool. It means silly or stupid person. So if you go by that definition it has nothing to do with religion.

But back then it might have had to do with a specific religion, but one doesn't really no. Just because you give to charity doesn't mean you are a good person. And being "good" doesn't make you saved. This is my understanding.

i have to agree with gratov. the bible contains certain passages which should be read in their context. yet they are in the bible as a reminder of things that have past. but it is true that the one who declars that there is no god has never done good. the bible says that ifyou break one commandment you break all. now warren buffett may have donated such alarge sum and we are all thankful but with what for reasons has he given the money in. is it for the ske of the poor or the sake of his reputation. giving donations doesn't mean your giving it from your heart. haven't you heard of pharasiss. read the bible and yuou will find the answers you seek.

It is simple really. If you do not have God in your heart, then watch out. Human works are not of God nor His will. A man can donate a billion, but if the heart is still gross, it is as a penny. Money means nothing to God.

YES....scientists and atheists are all utter fools....science is OCCULT knowledge given to humans by fallen angels to espouse the lie of the serpent in the garden....that you don't need GOD!!!!!!!! Are you so stupid to believe that we 'owe' scientists our lives...please these same people have cures for cancer, they have pollution free technology, they have solar/electrical cars, etc, etc, they don't use it because it doesn't serve their satanic purposes! These scientists and doctors all sport their occult symbolism proudly which tells you what......they believe in and worship the serpent and that's the source of their knowledge!!!! Do you really think that someone donating millions of dollars is a good deed? Please money is evil!!!!! Money naturally attracts itself to evil and someone who donates 37 billion to meaningless cause(other than self serving promotion) probably has another 60-70 billion still in the bank so it's no big deal really!
You keep being a slave to science and money and enjoy all it has to offer......I'll be glad when these things are destroyed and they will be soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once again an uneducated person has taken a few words out of context to try and cause dissent. If you want to know the Christian message read The New testament. You will discover that no matter what evil humans have done in the name of Christianity, the message from The Christ was and is simply one of love.
