I was told the same thing. I'm willing to reevaluate the answer and reread the Quran, but the evidence seems overwhelmingly one-sided. I could be wrong, but when I look at Muhammad, I see a man who failed when trying things peacefully, turned robber, turned emperor. Then there's the stories about his life which reinforce the exceedingly brutal interpretation of the verses. Then there's the history of Islamic empires, which are less than tolerant as well.
I'll see if I'm wrong, but shrill denials that it fosters violence and claims that the violence doesn't have any foundation doesn't resonate with me. Everywhere a large populace of Muslims intersects with non-Muslims there is violence (the "bloody borders"), and the vast majority of terrorism is done by Muslims. They do this quoting the Quran.
If they're misunderstanding things, then the Muslims need to stop their own. Some do, and I've seen attempts, but they are also outshouted or simply shutdown. In the end, whether it is a misinterpretation or not, they riot, murder, and kill. Instead of acknowledging that it's a problem, we're told we misunderstand, they sue media outlets to rename the Hamas mouse "resistence mouse," call any critic Islomophobic or racist, etc. All other religions have had to deal with their loons and fanatics, admit to problems, and we did it. Why won't Islam? Why is it always the victims that are wrong in their interpretation?
This problem does have to be solved, and I fear the consequences the West will unleash if it isn't. The problem is real, and there is a terrible war coming. In its current state, I don't think the West has any way to restrain the hysteria and cruelty it'll unleash (remember, our most influential philosophers are Marx and Nietzsche whose philosophies produced Communism and Nazism). When it swings the other way, it's going to swing hard. Muslims should police themselves for their own protection. I, for one, don't want to see it happen.

And with-on your query is your reply, its like asking if I go the avenue blindfolded will I get run over? What I might like to grasp, why is it at the BBC whilst it has a information application approximately Muslims, Sharia legislation and Honor killings in Britain it continuously says and it makes a factor approximately it, that the mammoth majority of Muslims that come to Britain do to be able to break out Sharia legislation, but whilst polled such a lot Muslims certainly men might quicker reside by way of Sharia legislation and all of its implications. Someone someplace is telling porkies and I have a sneaking little feeling that it would be the BBC in its many makes an attempt to pervert the inside track to a couple variety of Multicultural Utopia, that does not and in no way will exist besides within the minds of a few alas deluded humans on the BBC.

The quran are writings just like when Jesus is shown in the Holy Bible, the writings are from people, that wrote what they heard them say. There is the killings of the evil doers, in the Holy Bible and the Quran. The Bible is about 600 years older than the Quran. When the mid eastern oil, is not needed any more, that is doom to them all, because after that, what do they have?

When the Quran demand Muslims to take the tax from the christian and jews, is this fair are Muslims better than the other.
The problem is not with Quran but with other Islamic books they are the bases of the Islam with the Quran, like (alahadith - alsuna), in those there are many problems.

all i can tell u is this: i am Muslim and i do not kill or have not killed anyone, including "dis-believers". and i have many Christian, Hindu, and Jewish friends. and i bet they will tell u that i am very kind and peaceful.
by the way.....these terrorists in the world consist not only of Muslims, but by "extremists" of every religion. and as for your last question....look at the new testament of the holy bible, if you read one page it will say one thing, but if you turn a few pages it will have the same sentence, but it will be all turned around and messed up.
now, if you ask me i would say that's easily misinterpreted. the holy Quran isn't like that. not a single word in the Quran has been altered since it was written. go see for yourself.
salaam alaikom (peace be upon you)

The Quran is no worse then the Bible when it comes to violence. Like any other holy book, it can be twisted and used for whatever purpose the user wants.
When will humans grow up and stop believing in faery tales?

Most muslims can't read it, since it is in Arabic. Those who do read seem to not realize how peaceful it is, since it is the religious leaders who foment random acts of violence.

"Kill disbelievers wherever you find them. If they attack you, then kill them. Such is the reward of disbelievers. (But if they desist in their unbelief, then don't kill them.)" 2:191-2 essentially this means convert or die....wow really peaceful.
"Have no unbelieving friends. Kill the unbelievers wherever you find them." 4:89
"Those who make war with Allah and his messenger will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land. That is how they will be treated in this world, and in the next they will have an awful doom." 5:33
"Those who disbelieve will be forced to drink boiling water, and will face a painful doom." 6:70
"How many a township have We destroyed! As a raid by night, or while they slept at noon, Our terror came unto them. "7:4-5
maybe i'm missing the kind and peaceful undertones between the lines...

Considering the number of places where it calls on believers to be nasty to the infidels, the claim is ludicrous. Considering the seriousness of the errors in the thing, the whole book is ludicrous.

the verses that are listed above are very very misinterpreted, if it wasnt true then i wouldnt have said that because i dont want to fool myself. those verses are not instructions for us, that was sent to Mohammad(pbuh) after he had suffered persecution and that was sent to let them know to defend themselves but they still couldnt transgress, they still had laws during war, it was and is prohibited to kill children, women, or even a soldier who is not able to fight. and if you defeat the enemy you cannot take their belongings, you cannot drink water from someones farm without permission. if those were instructions for muslims to kill everyone then almost half the world would be killed, that is just plain logic.
