I have noticed the last couple of days my 7mos old pug is wiping his face into the carpet, he then runs in circles and then starts the inward-hiccups. I have never seen anything like this before. His nose is clear, his eyes are fine, I've checked him over thoroughly and don't see anything. Why is he doing this?

Two main reasons. The first of which is because their teeth are causing them pain, not likely with a 7 month old. Second is because they like it! Feels good and not necessarily because anything itches. This combined with the running in circles indicates to me the dog is having fun, is excited. The "inward-hiccups" is actually "collapsed trachea syndrome" it can be serious but that is very rare. Many small breeds have this genetic defect where the trachea collapses inward and restricts the air flow into the lungs. It usually doesn't last long and if you get the dog to relax it resolves itself much faster.

You are lucky, my pug wipes his face into my shirt. Pugs big bug eyes don't close all the way when they sleep or blink, unless they wince. Therefore they get what I call "eye burgers". Make an attempt to keep his eyes wiped and I use dog tears solution to wash the filmy substance out. The "hic-ups" are really inverted sneezes. I gave my dog one low power benedril and it cleared up the problem, plus I keep him out of tall grass now. Sounds like your little one has an allergy, a vet vist is warranted before you medicate a precious pug. Pugs are high maintenance but worth every minute and dollar of it.

My dog does this if her face is wet. If she's been out in the rain for a few minutes or playing in the sprinklers she will wipe her head to dry it off, and sometimes just to cure an itch. Pugs have many folds that can be itchy. No problem though.

I too have pugs that like to do this. Sometimes its to rub the gunk out of their eyes.Other times its because around their eyes are damp and is uncomfortable. It can cause a bad hot spot if it stays damp for too long. So dry around they eyes and be sure to keep it that way. If not treated it can spread and become painful.
One other unlikely cause is mange. It shows up around the eyes and causes itchiness.
So make sure to keep your pugs face clean and dry. If that doesn't help go to the vets and have a skin scraping done.

It probably feels soft to him. Since he's use to the hardwoods in the rest of the house, it feels good to rub on something soft lol We have a cat that LOVES velvet lol. Our Christmas tree skirt was velvet and she would get and roll all over it,, I think because she liked the way it felt. lol

Hello..just kinda nutty, but nothin bad, they also have scent glands along the sides of their mouths so they rub to rub the scent on things & fleas will go for moisture areas, could be drink & run fleas bugging him..it's impossible to think you can get rid of every flea, especially in warm weather, tho you can control them, you can't get rid of them all... beings you've checked him over for any problems or bad teeth, etc..am guessing this is why ..Take Care :)

Sounds like his face itches. Sometimes my dachshunds do this when they have a bit of food on their face or stuck along the side of their mouth as well. Have you checked all his little folds? Any fleas or bites on him?

Sometimes they like to wipe their scent on things. It might also be an itch. You might want to give your vet a jingle tomorrow though, never a dumb question when it comes to your pup.
