A real possibility, also dehydration in the desert and fasting could produce similar mental hallucinations etc...not to mention drugs that they may have been ingesting.

Every human has spot's of paranoia, schitztophrenia, and abnormal brain and emotional errata. The people who love their prophet's included.,so that time would have had less of this human disease than now, so that's the problem, we add vanity and other attribute's to what was a relatively pure and illuminateing prophetic verse,(as spoken by a prophet) and then it become's a social digression that time make's society ill, from the loss of power. Schitaophrenia is a physical and mental attribute that human's, being part animal are subject too.

Might have been, but I have to add that this is common throughout many religious writings.
In the bible and torah it says: You shall not kill, but we still slaughter animals for the pleasure of taste.
I have studied several scriptures, also the qu'ran, but I have my own views on each of those and don't want to start a war here ;o)

Yes..in the sense that schizophrenic implies a detachment from reality.. but then that would entirely fit the mindset of their audience..also John the Baptist tested positive for locusts and honey..as for the book of Revelations.. I'll have a pint of that pleeze!

I dont think so because the bible is the word of God and the authors mere instruments. There is another problem . There were no mental health professionals at that time and today no qualified mental health professional would make a serious diagnosis without talking or seeing the "patient". I dont think you are qualified either to make or even suggest that possibility.

afro: This conclusion of yours seems correct to you - right? or you wouldn't have of stated it so.
My question to you is this. Don't you think that the solution is always "schizoid" to those with the problem?

No, I just think that they relied too much on thier own beliefs instead of actually trying to find the truth.

The author of the Bible is God. The men who did the writing were just His tools.
