I have a brain, I think for myself, I read (not the bible) I meditate on my thoughts, I do not blindly follow, I ask logical questions, I refuse to believe that everyone who dosent believe EXACTLY what you do is going to hell. I do not believe in hell, I believe in energy, science and truth, not blind faith. I believe that is a woman is raped by her father she should be ablr to have an abortion, you freaks do not. I believe in life, you believe in death. I refuse to associate myself with a religion that believes that god made the world in 7 days, ever heard of a fossil. I refuse to believe that all humans are from adam and eve, if this were true, eve would have been forced to have sex with her sons. Adam would have to pork his daughter, to make another generation, and those inbred offspring would have to screw eachother too, real great premise for the dawn of man... no wonder your priests rape little boys, and ruine lives. And the list goes on and on, but im sure you get my point.
Christianity is dated, it dosent make sense in todays world.
Just look at the Evangelicals, all they want is for the "Antichrist" to emerge and the end of the world to happen, yeah that sounds like a great religion, try and kill the world because they blindly belive that they are all gonna dissapear into thin air, real smart.... you just keep on thinkin that.
AND THAT IS WHAT STOPPS ME FROM BELIEVING

1. Lack of credible evidence for gods.
2. The logical absurdity of trying to explain the origin of complexity by a prior greater complexity.
3. The long history of men making up myths, continuing to this day.
4. The totally contradictory claims of believers.
5. My belief in an rational non-superstitious explanation for reality ( reality is based on mathematical laws ). see attached link

the problem here is that the question asks what is stopping me from believing not just one thing but many things. if i want to simply believe in god i should be able too without sacrificing reason and science and genuine human virtue with no need to be penitent.
as far as what stops me from believing in the bible. they were written by men, the most inconsistent and artistic source of information. there is nothing that compels me to believe that the bible has all the right answers, it just has answers.

believing....what? You have to be specific really. I'm going to assume you mean in the christian god just because...seems like a question that such a person would ask. Remember this is the 'Religion & Spirituality' section, not the 'Christianity' section. You will have to be much more specific when asking questions that could be taken into so many directions. For instance, I could take this question to mean...what stops me from believing in Santa? Well...I don't believe in Santa because one Christmas Eve, I saw my parents putting Santa's 'gifts' out.

Two things, ironically the same things Christians told me would help me believe.
1) Asking God to come into my life
2) The Bible
Nothing happened, and the Bible was full of too many lol moments, and too much omg moments if you know what I'm saying. Somewhere betwen the absurdity, and the baby killing I couldn't believe.

Oh, i'm getting what you mean. properly, i assume while human beings end believing of their God(s), they sense there wasn't one to start with. besides the undeniable fact that, i assume we are able to by no skill incredibly understand. I say enable human beings have self assurance what they suspect. :)

Zero evidence supporting the existence of any gods - even yours.
Nobody can prove any gods, much less a specific god, exist; many people will tell you their god exists but no others, but will never be able to prove it, even if they think so. Some will threaten you with eternal pain or promise eternal joy to get you to believe in their god; these are all stories, created for people who were scared long before we understood the universe. Now we have no more reason for these superstitions.

I am very definitely a "believer" in Deuteronomy VI -- Hear, oh Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is One!
I am a believer that creating a god out of a human being is blasphemy and idolatry!
