Matt 19:17 (NLT)
17 “Why ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. But to answer your question—if you want to receive eternal life, keep[a] the commandments.”
(Amplified)
Christos was referring to that there is no other god or anything else that is *good-natureD* but HIM. How is he denying that he is God in this scripture.?. He's implying that if you want to inherent eternal life (Heaven), obey his Word and live by his Word....?.
Oh...I see...(sudden revelation) Christ was not taking the credit of being called "good" he was referring the praise back to the Father who is God. Christ never made anything about himself, he always said, the "Father this, the Father that..." He was saying why are you calling me Good.?. (The Son in the Flesh), when there is only ONE who is GooD (God, but Also Him because he he is apart of the GODheaD or the Trinity, so he really was talking about himself indirectly, the Son in the Spirit.)
He wasn't denying that he was God in the Flesh. He just made it about God the Father and Not about God the Son. If that makes any sense at all, LoL. I didn't know how else to explain it, LoL

The question has more than one meaning. It is a true statement; only God is good. However it makes the listener ask the question to himself; Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one.
You stand there and say to yourself Jesus is surely good. I have never seen this level of goodness before. Surely he is good....but now he says only God is good. Is he God?
The only conclusion one can come to is to say that yes, Jesus is God, yet the Lord God is one.
Jesus always asked questions that made the listener think deeper, for instance: Peter do you love me?...asked three times.

When reading scripture it sometimes helps to have more than one translation of the bible. See if this makes more sense?
(Matthew 19:16-19) . . .Now, look! a certain one came up to him and said: “Teacher, what good must I do in order to get everlasting life?” 17 He said to him: “Why do you ask me about what is good? One there is that is good. If, though, you want to enter into life, observe the commandments continually.” 18 He said to him: “Which ones?” Jesus said: “Why, You must not murder, You must not commit adultery, You must not steal, You must not bear false witness, 19 Honor [your] father and [your] mother, and, You must love your neighbor as yourself.”. . .

Jesus greatly humbled himself when he (God the son) took on a human form.
"Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. " For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth

Jesus wasn't saying He wasn't good. Jesus was saying He was God.
