How many of you will admit that you don't know if there's a god and you don't know if there's an afterlife?

The most annoying and stupid thing said by christians that I constantly read here is them going on about how the "know" everything that happens after you die. They "know" every detail. They "know" what god is real and what gods are fake. The "know" everything this god does and thinks.
NO ONE KNOWS!
I am an atheist and I'll gladly admit that I have no idea if there is a god or not. I have no idea if there is an afterlife or not. I just don't BELIEVE.
I think Christians need to start using the words "I believe" instead of "I know".

What the hell are you talking about calling me agnostic?
I clearly said I don't believe in a god.
THAT'S ATHEIST.

Anyone that says "I know there is no god" is a moron. When it comes to the supernatural all we can do is believe or not believe, nothing more, nothing less.
I have never met an atheist that says "I know there is no god".

there is a very blurry line between "to know" and "to believe". A person can both "know" something without believing it (such as gravity... I know it exists but I really have a hard time believing it exists just because something has mass) and "believe" something without knowing it ( life evolved from a bacteria, I believe that life evolved but I cannot know it for sure). This debate would come down to definitions of words and their connotations. I would personally say that it would be acceptable for Christians to claim that they "know" that there is a God because of historical evidence and looking through their worldview portrays an accurate account of the world. They "believe" that there is a God and through exploration of their worldview they can come to the conclusion that there must be a God so they "know" that there is a God. I hope this helps a little in explaining in a way that is not offensive as so many Christians have taken to being i.e. the answers so far

Oh, it's true that there are things we just believe but don't know. It's also true, however, that there are things we *know* but don't believe.

I know that there's a God. This, to me, is a fact based on experience and buttressed by philosophy. Just because you haven't experienced it doesn't mean that someone else can't know something. I have direct experiences with God, corroborated by similar experiences in others or by others experiencing it simultaneously. If I saw anything within what you accept as reasonable these standards would be enough to say I know this thing. However, since you doubt, you must assert that I do not have this knowledge. It is, in this case, not my lack of experience or knowledge, but your prejudices that are the source of your assertion.

I believe strongly enough that there's life after death. I can't know in the same way I can that there's a God, but I can know it in the same way that I can know that Chinese astronomers observed a supernova, Abraham Lincoln was president, and that there's a planet 20.5 light years away 5 times the size of the earth. In each case, I either do not have access to the means to evaluate the evidence or rely on someone else's accounts. There's been enough near-death experiences, astral projections, and so on that show that the body can indeed separate from the soul and where the one experiencing it gained knowledge they shouldn't otherwise have had (and if they did have, then they had another source of knowledge just as wondrous).

So, yes, I can know these things. Your own knowledge and experience may be more limited in these areas (or by your own prejudices), but your absence of knowledge doesn't equate to the absence of knowledge in others. I may interpret it wrong, but you cannot argue with experience or observation, only the interpretations. However, without similar experiences or spending the time sorting them out, you're in no position to even venture a guess as to whether I know or not. Is this not as arrogant as what you dislike, to assume that because you are ignorant of something that others are as well? In any other subject, we certainly would consider it arrogant.

You call yourself and atheist, but you have agnostic beliefs. Quote "I am an atheist and I'll gladly admit that I have no idea if there is a god or not". Athesist believe there is No God, while agnostics claim not to know if there is or there isn't. Huumm

You are what the Bible calls 'double-minded'.
James 1:8: A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

If you are uncertain as to what you believe, how can you fault one who is absolutely sure of what they believe?

When we say that we know, it is not because we have experienced seeing God yet or have seen Heaven yet. The reason we can say that we know, is because of the evidence that we have learned, by studying His word concerning the prophecies that have come true. The writings about Jesus in Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53, which have been proved by even non Christians, to be written 600 or more years before His birth.

In Romans 10:17 Paul's letter to the Romans, he says that our faith comes by hearing the words of God, the Bible.

When we listen to the words of God concerning His Son Jesus, and apply them to our lives, Jesus then changes us into loving and kind people. If we accept Him as our Lord and Savior and repent, He becomes our best friend. His words are tried and true. I know that this is true from experience. Peace.

i know where you are coming from and i also know what we Christians are thinking. There are some things that i will say i know on, not because im acting like everything i say is right but out of habit. i do believe there is a god, and im tired of people saying im bad because of it. stop saying that we are totally wrong and try to have an open mind SOMETIMES. I hate it when everyone just groups us Christians together and say that we are all cheesy and pushy with our religion. THAT IS NOT ME!!! get a life and stop criticizing us

With the intent of this question being fulfilled, people would actually realize that faith alone is in no way a source of knowledge (by definition, it's belief in what you have little or no reason to believe, essentially meaning gullibility). Personally, I believe because I have found certain concepts in the atheistic theories of the universe that I find illogical or inconclusive, and I have not found such content in my own theories (but that doesn't mean I've stopped looking).

There is definitely a God and He is a God who does not lie!

I have seen too many people suffer and die. Now, I can tell you that for some, it was a very pleasant passing. But, for others...it was as though hell was tormenting them before death!

I have watched two people, who were strong Christians die after months of suffering. I could tell you things they related to me and things they saw. But, would it change your mind? NO! Not until you experience this too! I pray you do before your death comes!

I am christian and I have always used the saying I believe....In fact most of the prayers in the church starts with "We Believe"

I do not know what happens after death...I would hope there is more than being here but I do not know for sure......I just hope.

Wow. What vitriol. The thought of accountability for what you do in this life really scares you, doesn't it?

By the way, if you, by your own admission, do not know if there is a god, then you are not an atheist; you are agnostic. Someone who does not know who s/he is has no business criticizing the knowledge of others.

That's a great Idea...personally everyone around me say I believe rather than I know, but all the power to you if you have problem like that. There is no proof of god, but it's great if you BELIEVE! So do everyone a favor by stating that you personally believe rather than know, cuz truth is, we don't.
I am a believer, but I do not know, and I respect those who don't believe:)
