I will be spending lots of time at the pool this summer. I was looking for a productive thing to do. Will swimming help me slim down and get into good shape?

swimming is one of the best overall exercises if you have access to a pool.

it is a full body workout, and the water takes pressure off of your joints, which is a huge plus.

Swimming IS great exercise. However, a female should swim in a heated pool. Swimming in a cold pool causes the female body to put on more of a fat layer for protection. Please take this into consideration when you swim. You might want to cut down your time in the water a little.

swimming is a good form of cardio workout and it gives resistance training also.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Yes. People say it is the best excercise for you because u r using all ur muscles and toning all of them. Go for it. You will see results fast.

yeah, swimming is good cardio and works about every muscle on the body, have fun with it
