Its all here

The Natural Religion of Deism is thought to be dead by the "experts." But the “experts” are wrong. Deists, thanks to the internet and a more tolerant society, are coming out of the closet and announcing that Deism is not dead. That a modern Deist movement is progressing and gaining numbers as people realize that they too are Deists.

Deists are people that have concluded that there is a God, through their own reasoning, experiences and studies. Deists have come to believe that none of the revealed religions are or can be correct. That God communicates to us through nature and not though men’s words. Deists believe that through careful reasoning that humans can develop better lives and higher morality than they could by trying to follow what any ancient book may teach.

As many Deists believe that we are living a higher morality simply by helping others when we can, that Deists don't need holy books or "authorities" telling us how to do so. Deists believe that by leaving superstition behind and using valid reasoning, we can have a better world. Which is what most Deists believe is what God wants for us.

Most of the holy books would have us accept that God loves some humans and not others. Deists do not accept that. Most Deists believe that we are equal as far as God is concerned. No special groups or people or special prophets, just one human race.

There are many people that do not know that what they already believe has a term for those beliefs. And, of course, that term is Deism. There are many Deists that believe in Deism, but won't say so for fear of the reactions of those around them. Some fear losing their families, friends, and jobs.

is a religious philosophy and movement that became prominent in England, France, and the United States in the 17th and 18th centuries. Deists typically reject supernatural events (prophecy, miracles) and divine revelation prominent in organized religion, along with holy books and revealed religions that assert the existence of such things. Instead, deists hold that religious beliefs must be founded on human reason and observed features of the natural world, and that these sources reveal the existence of one God or supreme being.

Prior to the 17th century the terms ["deism" and "deist"] were used interchangeably with the terms "theism" and "theist", respectively. ... Theologians and philosophers of the seventeenth century began to give a different signification to the words.... Both [theists and deists] asserted belief in one supreme God, the Creator.... and agreed that God is personal and distinct from the world. But the theist taught that god remained actively interested in and operative in the world which he had made, whereas the deist maintained that God endowed the world at creation with self-sustaining and self-acting powers and then abandoned it to the operation of these powers acting as second causes

the most accessible statement of deism is Thomas Paine's book The Age of Reason (1795). It is short, readable, and witty. It is still in print and is also downloadable in electronic format from various Web sites.

It was pretty popular in the 19th century. Similar to transcendentalism. It's a lot like finding God through nature, and that most religions are united in the fact that there is a God and he is good. Benjamin Franklin and Ralph Waldo Emerson were Deists, but this is from memory, so you may want to double check that.

In the universe there are many energy fields which we cannot normally perceive. Some energies have a spiritual source which act upon a person's soul. However, this "soul" does not exist ab initio as orthodox Christianity teaches; it has to be brought into existence by a process of guided self-observation. However, this is rarely achieved owing to man's unique ability to be distracted from spiritual matters by everyday trivia.
