I thought I heard something about waiting a few days to apply a spot-on treatment after taking a flea collar off, but I'm not sure if I have to or not. So anyone who knows please tell me. Thanks!

I would wait just in case. I had a dog who was very sensitive to organophosphates and one time I didn't take the collar off and put on the drops. She almost immediately started having seizures and had to be rushed to the vet and treated for organophosphate poisoning.

I learned the hard way... Better safe than sorry.

Nah, go ahead and put on the flea treatment. The collar is a barrier in order to prevent the fleas from getting to the dog's mouth for moisture. The flea treatment (which, if you have the same/similar stuff that we use) you put between the dog's shoulder blades and it soaks into the dog's system.

As I understand it, the treatment prevents fleas from staying on the dog because the flea doesn't like the "flavor" of your dog. It works real well -- my dog hasn't had fleas ever. We use it every month except in late fall, winter.

No you don't need to wait, however do NOT use ANY OTC flea products and this includes flea collars..they are ineffective, can cause serious skin irritation, skin burns, neurological issues, seizures and death.

Only use safe flea products such as Frontline, Advantage or other vet approved flea product.

Frontline & Frontline plus do not go into a dogs system but rather stay in the hair folicles and are dispersed over the skin by the oils in the skin. Fleas do not have to bite the dog in order to die.

Glad to hear you took your dog off the flea collar. Flea collars are bad. I hope you got your spot treatment from the vet.

As soon as you take them off they are no longer effective anyway. They do nothing to your dog. It is not like the spot on treatments that get into the dogs blood system. You can wait 2 days but I dont think you have to.
