has anyone ridden roller coasters after back surgery? ive had a laminectomy in my lower back. Feel fine..of coarse never 100%..but the pain is pretty much ignorable. its only a nuisance at times..and at others its like a little cramp..but nothing else. just wondering what the most active thing you've done is after surgery.

A roller coaster jerks your body all around At high speeds. This would be far too much on your back. Don't even think about doing this. There's many other things to do in the world that can cause pleasure without Pain.

First. How long has it been? Your symptoms should be gone 0-4 weeks post surgery depending on whether your MD got the right disc. However You have to realize your surgeon has removed 30% of your disc. Now you have stability and functional issues that you will have to deal with for the rest of your life. I had surgery 16 years ago, and have pretty much done it all since then and continue. Coasters should be fine as long as your not having any pain and have good range of motion and flexibility to the injured area. Personally i would wear a back brace if you don't think your muscles are strong enough to support you. I would recommend stretching, massage and chiropractic to help maintain what your surgeon did. Your back will have an accelerated rate of degenerative arthritis as a result of the sugery. I bet he didn't tell you that. Good Luck and have fun.

Roller coasters (just went on one today) put an enormous amount of stress through the body. Those without a history of any problems can handle it fine but I was even sore after one day when I went on a ton of them. This is something you have to consider. I would say not to go on it, pick an activity that is less stressful on the back. That is why they have those signs when you are walking toward the lines stating that anyone with a history of neck or back problems among other things should not ride. You have to weigh the pros and cons of making that choice but personally it would not be worth the 1-2 minutes of fun to possibly suffer another injury that can cause permanent damage.
