While I was applying bronzing lotion on my self yesterday, My son came in and he asked what I was doing and I told him using a tanning lotion to give myself a fake tan.

He said he wanted to have tanner skin and asked if he can use it too. I told him that I will do it for him because he does not know how much to use and he said ok.

Should I continue using it for him or should he not use it?

Seems like he is at that age when he is self conscious and cares about his looks - nothing wrong with it. However, I do not think he should be using self tanning lotion. First off, it would look silly because you can ALWAYS tell when a woman is wearing it... let alone a 12 year old boy. I would encourage him to play with his friends outdoors so he can acquire some color naturally. I would also explain that he is too young to be using those kinds of products. Think about a role reversal: If you had a 12 year old daughter, would you let her use sunless tanner? It just plays into the whole body issue problem that today's youth are having. Encourage him to like himself for who he is because high school is around the corner and you'll be in for a rude awakening. Let the kids just be kids.

If that's what makes him happy! I have been using tanning lotion since i was 12. There isn't really any harm to it. Although i don't think a 13 year old boy would want his mother putting on lotion for him. My mom stopped doing that when i was 6. Give him a break, he ain't a baby

Your son is not a baby.. If he can use regular lotion, there is nothing harmful with tanning lotion.

He may have to experiment with how much to apply or how evenly... what kind of results he wants etc.

But at 12 years old, I would also be concerned about you, the mother applying it.
I'm not sure at that age, he really likes to be touched... If he can bathe/shower alone then I don't think you should apply the tanning lotiong ALL over his body.

I am 13 years old. My mom has a bronze lotion by L'Oriel that gives you a fake tan and i just used it this morning. haha. it did nothing bad for my skin, it just gives it a darker color. You should continue to let him use it...after all: what is the worst that could happen?

Let him use it himself. I would have killed my mom if she told me she was the one who had to rub lotion on me. 12 years old is an awkward age, and I bet he's feeling anything but comofortable having you rub it all over him.
