I .was once exercising at around 2 am and didnt want anyone to wake up from all my hard breathing, so I slowed my breathing to quiet it down...

That caused me to be more worn out and sweated more...

Then that day in biology we had a discussion on Homeostasis and how we used burn up so many energy to maintain our body heat.

the girl next to me asked,"If that was true, then if I took a blanket and wrapped it around myself and started sweating,
could I lose my babyfat that way?"

The class just started laughing but I was kind of wondering if it was true. My teacher never realy answered it, all she said was "Tell us how it goes"...

Can you really?

if the muscles are not being exercised over their entire range of motions then one is not truly exercising.

Maybe really, really slowly. Like, I wouldn't reccomend it. Simply breathing, sweating, OR shivering does not directly engage main muscles. Sweating (with a shower afterward) usually just clears your skin of impurites, it doesn't give you a beach body.

When you are slowing your breathing, you are doing breathing excersizes. Your diaphram is working when you breath in and hold your breath and relaxes when you exhale. The prolonged excersize will allow you to hold your breath longer so that's why it's considered an excersize. Shivering is another excercise. When you are sweating, you are losing water, not fat.

Sweating will help you loose water weight but I don't think it will help burn calories and fat the way cardio excercise would by increasing your heart rate and using muscle and wouldn't think that you would get any of the health benefits that excercise provides

Well, your muscles are not in use, so I would have to say no.
