Just use logic. can two men produce a child or two women, there is a natural order to life; a man and woman equals children.

In response to so many of the other responses...if it was natural and right...why can't two homosexuals of the same gender procreate? The only way for a homosexual to multiply is via recruitment tactics. It is sad that the statistics for homosexuality state the main reason they discovered their condition is because someone, usually an adult, of the same gender, had molested them at some point in their lives. The statistic was from a class I took in a California State University...I believe it was a health class for educators. So the person who helped the other person to discover their sexual preference gives honor to the one who molested them. Then they go on to say they were made that way by God, and should be accepted, etc. Sin is sin...no matter what excuses society makes for it. I wish I had a better answer for you...I know my own children find it as something wrong, and we have had small discussions on the matter. The natural order of things...as God created them is for males and females to procreate...unless they are the specialized creatures which can change gender depending on lack of the opposite gender available...such as worms and frogs. Oh and of course the many microscopic creatures which multiply asexually...but as complex organisms, we have to use our minds and produce perversions from the natural order and make excuses for it, and make it also natural. See any male on male apes producing young yet?

Did the 5 yr old ask or are you just feeling the need to explain something that he has no interest in, don't care about, and why explain a wrong act to a child that wouldn't even comperhend what you were saying. Why would he just assume that their are homosexuals?

Find the verses in the bible showing homosexuality is wrong (Romans 1:26-28, for example). Show them that throughout the bible when it talks about love/romantic relationships between people it always mentions husbandmen and wife. Talk about how God created man and created a woman as his partner in life.
You have to really research your answers, if they brought this up to you, if they didn't ask you this question, don't go about bring up this subject yet, Stick to say no to drugs and Stranger danger topics.
if your children brought up the question remember you have to mention that God created man, and that God loves his creation. It is the actions that men do that God is displeased with. That is why we have to repent to be saved.
God also doesn't want us to have hatred against one another, and though men do things that are displeasing to God ( which is all of us) we still treat people with respect, and love people the way Jesus love the world.
Make sure your message is against the act of homosexuality, not against the people who are homosexuals.

Why is it important for you to tell your child this? Is he showing homosexual tendencies already? Do you care how uncomfortable this would make someone who is stuck in the dilemna of two difficult choices of you having this condition? Yes, it is a choice but one that is sort of forced on someone who is born this way. Wouldn't you rather teach your child to see everyone as human before they learn about 'the wrong kind of people'? Why not just tell the child why you feel this way. Quote scripture if you must.

Only a daddy and a mommy dedicated for life to each other ( and to their potential children)can naturally make and then raise a baby who needs both a daddy-figure and a mommy- figure. I would use simpler words, however, and only if the kid brings up the issue since I think that such things should be discussed later in a child's life..

First, for the record I don't think it's "wrong."
...but having said that, if it goes against your religion, then I guess that's how you should explain it. Assuming you've explained your religion to your five year old, then maybe you could say something like, "God says homosexuality is a sin." I suppose I'm making some assumptions about your character, but you might add that God still loves everyone, and just doesn't want them to sin....?
This is just my opinion here, and no disrespect meant, but I can't imagine a five year old would actually care about homosexuality, or understand it....

Why would you need to discuss such a topic at age five? I think you are trying to address issues they are not even thinking about, and regardless of your belief that homosexuality is wrong, many people would argue otherwise.
I think you are setting them up for conflict, by trying to indoctrinate them with such an idea at age 5.

Well you are most certainly right about it being wrong. For those of us that believe in such things are wrong in our thinking. To listen to these folks telling others to live and let live, makes me sad. What they're actually saying is live and let die. If your child is old enough to ask the question they're old enough to get the truth. I think from your question that you know what to do, just remember to remind your children to hate the sin not the sinner.

If your five year old is truly seriously interested in such issues, the problem is much deeper than whether or not he is "gay"....perhaps you ought to check into the situation. There is a very good possibility the poor child is being molested.

When I had to explain this, I did not explain it in terms of being right or wrong, but what it was.
Sometimes people of the same sex fall in love with each other and wish to live as a couple the same way their father and I do.
