don't quite understand who is it that cares a lot for you but I'm thinking its the ex friend telling you that the ex cares a lot for you in that case the ex friend is try in to tell you that there more to it than just caring she's still in love with you i hope this answer your question

It means "I care for you" - she cares what happens to you, and would like you to be happy, but she's either not in love with you anymore or there are things that just didn't work out in the relationship that neither one of you could get past.
