I'm an artist and I love my Converse Chuck Taylors. Naturally I would like to take my obsession one step further and customize my favorite shoes. Only problem is I've never really painted clothing before and I don't want my work to be ruined easily.

Any ideas on what types of paints to use on my shoes and what I can do to protect the artwork afterwards?

something as versatile as canvas extreme tops are going to finally crack...esp. in case you're utilising distinctive layers like detailing could advise. Use acrylic paints or fabric paints in as few layers as a threat. The thinner the paint is the fewer stiff if would be and much less in all probability to crack. Neither of those will come off with water. solid luck.

Ray ray is right. If you use most other products it will crack and peel. You can, of course, retire your shoes to the gallery, rather than wearing them. Have fun with it.
As an artist I have painted shoes in paintings, shot them for art photos, and am collecting them for a sculpture.
