hello, I am currently looking for the perfect ring. I am getting a cz engagement ring because in a couple years we are planning to buy a new, bigger house and i would rather put the money towards that than an expensive ring. I wil be the only one who knows it is fake, so who cares?
I would like some opinions on a carat size for the ring. I have chosen a princess cut, white gold with 3 small stones on each side of the band. I do not want something big and flashy. I am torn between getting a 1ct or a .75ct center stone. Money is no object obviously because it is a cz. We both make good/decent money, but I don't want a ring that looks like it costs a ridiculous amount of money. Don't get me wrong I do want a noticible ring, but nothing too much. The side stones equal .75ct alone.
Opinions please, 1ct center stone or .75??
Thanks so much.....

i think you are making a very wise decision by putting your money to good use. but i love diamonds, i would say go for a 1 ct. i have 3 bands totalling 2 cts and i absolutly love it! but i didn't get it until we got our house and cars. we did what you are about to do.
good luck and i wish you the best!

I think you should go for the 1 carat stone, maybe even 1 1/2, neither of those are too big and flashy. I commend your choice for a cz. I would prefer a cz over a diamond any day. I think the clarity and sparkle are better and you can get a much bigger stone for a fraction of the price. Congrats.

Definitely go for the smaller stone.. the most obvious giveaway on a CZ is getting one that is clearly out of the owner's price range! And you are wise to have it set in real gold, as a cheap setting is another giveaway to the observant. And believe me.. people (women especially!) DO look closely!

Are you sure you actually WANT a CZ engagement ring? I don't think I would.. I'd rather pass on the ring altogether and get a really nice wedding ring. Can always get the engagement ring later as an anniversary present :)

I think that .75 is better. I have a .5 carat and I love the size, I have really slender hands.

Also cz won't hold up very well since it is much softer than a diamond. White sapphires are almost as strong as diamond, 9 on the mohr scale, while diamond is 10. But you can do what you like, just thought I'd offer up a suggestion.

I looked around for my perfect wedding ring, mine too is similar to the one you're describing, however you should go with something that doesn't look too gaudy on your finger, you're ring should be proportionate to your finger maybe a little bigger, but I went with a .70 ct just a little bit smaller than a .75 and you couldn't even tell unless you were the jeweler or me, so if you don't want anything big a flashy, well at least over the top big and flashy then I would go with something that's not too big for your finger and something that would look nice with the ring, sometimes you can get too big of a stone in the center and make the side stones look tiny. Also depending on the cut of the diamond ex..marquise, square, oval, pear, etc. that makes a big difference too. Good Luck and Congratulations!!

My husband bought me a 1 ct diamond engagement ring. If it was going to be a choice between a cz or nothing I would have rather had a better wedding band. I couldn't walk around knowing my ring was fake.

Does it really matter? Buy whatever ring you think looks the best on your finger. Also, you may want to take a look at white topaz, too. Look like diamond and noone will notice.

i would go with the 1ct center stone, by having this stone it will stick out more among the other stones but wont be flashy.

Are you paying for it? Or is your fiance? If he is then I would let him have some input. Congratulations on your maturity to select a more inexpensive ring.

Understated is always better, even with a cz.
