Cast into the lake of fire ...
"This is not annihilation, but separation forever from God and all good." Repugnant as this doctrine is for many, a believer may not deny it. There is nothing illogical about it. Let two prior facts be accepted, i.e., that the soul is imperishable, and that God cannot finally accommodate to evil, and the logical necessity of such a place as this is evident. The revelation of it should always be understood in the light of the truth that it was never meant for people (Matthew 25:41), and that Jesus our Lord suffered the agonies of the Cross for the one purpose of saving every man from it. Then, it is clear that the existence of it in no way denies the love and goodness of God.

Re 20:11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them.
Re 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was open

opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.
Re 20:13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works.
Re 20:14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Re 20:15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

Lab grrl,

God cannot accomodate evil. He threw Adam and Eve from the Garden so they could not eat of the Fruit from the tree of Life, otherwise they would be in a sinful state for eternity. NOT GOOD.

We have a choice so choose LIFE and live or don't bother and face the consequenses of God's judgement, easy now you choose. ITS UP TO THE INDIVIDUAL WHAT THEY WANT

YOUR CHOICE

Depending on the translation "hell" = "the grave", "the world of the dead", "sheol" (Hebrew), "hades" (Greek).

Hell isn't a place of eternal torment, but the common grave of the humankind.

The teaching of hell fire has pagan origins. In ancient Babylonian and Assyrian beliefs the “nether world . . . is pictured as a place full of horrors, and is presided over by gods and demons of great strength and fierceness.”
Early evidence of the fiery aspect of Christendom’s hell is found in the religion of ancient Egypt.

The Bible says that "The wages sin pays is death" -- Romans 6:23. So, in the day we die our sins are erased. See also Romans 6:7.

The Scriptures say that Jehovah is love (1 John 4:8). A loving God wouldn't torture us an eternity. Actually that never crossed his mind. Consider the next verse:
"They have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, in order to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, a thing that I had not commanded and that had not come up into my heart." -- Jeremiah 7:31

But what is the lake of fire mentioned in Revelation 21:8 ("But as for the cowards and those without faith and those who are disgusting in their filth and murderers and fornicators and those practicing spiritism and idolaters and all the liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur. This means the second death.")?

The lake of fire means second death, the Gehenna.
"And do not become fearful of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; but rather be in fear of him that can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna." -- Matthew 10:28
It is evident that Jesus used Gehenna as representative of utter destruction resulting from adverse judgment by God, hence with no resurrection to life as a soul being possible.

"And the sea gave up those dead in it, and death and Hades gave up those dead in them, and they were judged individually according to their deeds. And death and Hades were hurled into the lake of fire. This means the second death, the lake of fire." -- Revelation 20:13,14
As this verse shows, hell or Hades isn't the same with the lake of fire (Gehenna).

The soul is a man. The soul is not immortal. After death it ceases to exist.

"And Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul." -- Genesis 2:7

"In the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return." -- Genesis 3:19

"The soul that is sinning—it itself will die." -- Ezekiel 18:4

"For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten." -- Ecclesiastes 9:5

"All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol, the place to which you are going." -- Ecclesiastes 9:10

"His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground;
In that day his thoughts do perish." -- Proverbs 146:4

Free agency is the key to the plan of salvation. Our choices can not be made for us or forced upon us, otherwise there would be no point to our earthly existence. If we choose to do evil and do not repent of it in the time given, we simply can not be rewarded with peace and joy in the afterlife. Therefore some names will be blotted out of the Book of Life. The second death is a spiritual death, or a death to everything that is righteous. When you write that: "One cannot erase, or blot out, what is not already there...right?" Those are your words and not the words of the Holy Scriptures. God has the authority to cast down the wicked, and He has the authority to blot out their names from the Book of Life.

Oh, there is a logic in it. The problem is that it's circular logic.

Simple example of circular logic is papal infallibility. The Catholic Church says that the pope cannot make a mistake. Therefore anything and everything the pope says is true.

Your scenario is has more steps and is therefore more complex. It's still circular. If you want to claim that as proof, do you also agree to the doctrine of papal infallibility?

Believe it if it makes you feel better, but any omnipotent being who would create a hell and just one way of avoiding it is nasty, cruel and vindictive. In other words, the god you postulate is the best example we have of evil.

So what is your question, exactly? Seems to me that you are preaching a sermon instead of seeking an answer on "Yahoo Answers". The only disagreement I have with your words is that Christ did not suffer the pains of the cross for "every man", but instead, He suffered and died for God's elect. God's elect do not include the devil and his angels (messengers). God cursed Cain. He does not curse anyone whom He loves, but He blesses them with eternal life and many other blessings in this life, and in the world to come, instead. Read Romans 9, for example. On one side of the coin, you can see expression of His love, mercy, and grace towards those whom He loves. On the other side of the coin, you can see His wrath, justice, and judgment towards those whom He hates, if you read Romans 9.

Don't fall for the Arminian heresy. Sovereign grace, instead of universal atonement. If Christ suffered and died for ALL mankind, then Hell would not be so heavily populated, because all of the sins of mankind would already be paid for, and so Hell would be empty. It is not.

One final thought: Hell will probably contain plenty of lawyers, who will seek to sue the devil for "pain and suffering" of their clients. After all, lawyers must eat too, you know, and many of them tend to be rather greedy. Isn't avarice one of the seven deadly sins?

It's pretty scary once you think about it. Hell, the Lake of Fire, is one place I don't want to go. It's the place of pain and suffering and living like forever. But our souls don't have to live like that after we die. But it's God who brought us the gift of eternal life in Heaven. When someone is handing you a gift to you, what do you do to get it? You have to receive it or take it. That is what God is doing. He is offering a gift and all we have to do is accept it. God Bless!

The saddest thing about this is that people can read the truth of it and totally ignore it because the devil has blinded them to
spiritual truth. The wonderful thing is that God is more than willing to open the eyes of anyone who is willing to come to Him and receive spiritual truth.

Eternity looms ahead for all of us and is only one second away because none of us is promised that we will live out this day - let alone another day or week or month or year. Decisions are being made while people are reading questions and answers in Yahoo Answers that will determine
their final destiny. They may be writing here today and be gone before they get another syllable in. Only God knows.

Is there a question in there? Most of us KNOW what the bible says. We do not believe what the bible says. We do not believe that the stories of hell in the bible is what is going to happen after death. Do you remember before you were born? Well that's death as well. Your preaching is a waste if time and will not change one persons mind.

A god with a hell is a god devoid of good. This life is an eyeblink compared to eternity. When your child disobeys for an eyeblink, do you kill him?
