Depression can be tackled in many ways. You could naturally attack it by doing some physical activity such as working out, yoga, and any other activity that would either raise self confidence or make you happy. Medications are also an answer, but being a med student, I know for sure that meds just keep the problems inside your body, and unless you continuously take those meds, the issue will just pop its head back to the surface. Another and usually direct attack on depression is cognitive therapy. Meeting a psychiatrist may be favorable because they will help you unveil what the problem is and think of ways for you oppose those specific problems. I know how you feel for the most part. I had social anxiety disorder, and through therapy sessions with a little yoga tossed in here and there i felt better and better. I am taking care of any problems I have, and that approach should help you also. So I suggest avoiding meds unless you absolutely have to. Hope this helps.

I know it sounds easy and like it won't work, but here are a few way to help get over this horrific feeling:

1.) When you start feeling your depression coming, try writing down what exactly you think about. Then try to focus on what makes you happy and write those things down. Sit back and clear your head for a few minutes, then look back at the list in front of you and compare. If the things that make you happy seem more oppealing then the things you think about when your depressed, then you are doing well.

2.) Sit down with someone you can trust and let everything you're feeling out. Rambling to someone close to you that you know will actually listen really got me through.

3.)Find something uplifting to believe in. I'm not going to push any of the religions on you for that is your choice, but I find having something or someone to believe in is usuallyy very helpful.

4.) Take a long walk or a run so that you have time to get away from it all. Clear your head and look at the beauty of nature around you. Focusing on something that seems like it has nothing to do with the problem does take a lot off the mind, and putting your energy into walking or running keeps you from doing something you might regret later.

5.) Scream! Run either into a room where nobody is at or just outside and let it all out. Scream, yell, and shout until you can do no more. You should find that you'll feel a lot better afterwards.

I hope this helps. I've been through depression and I know how it feels. I'll pray for you.

Hi:
I have BiPolar Type 1, part of BiPolar is MAJOR DEPRESSION. Even if you think you are depressed and it doesn't matter if you are on medication for depression or not, Please call your doc and get an appointment as soon as you can. I know...catch 22...you need the appt, but when depressed who wants to or is even going to leave the house? Been there and will be there again (Cause of BiPolar). Have a family member or friend basically drag you out of the house. Once there, the doc helps then you can RUN BACK HOME and feel much better.

I do hope you feel better. Take care of yourself!

1. Get evaluated for meds.
2. Keep moving--Make yourself exercise at least ten minutes a day
3. Avoid depressing music/movies etc.
4. Make a list of what you are thankful for such as the ability to communicate, etc
5. Set small goals you want to achieve and start working on them
6. Help someone else.

depression is mostly as a result of feeling 'less' than we really are. through the years I discovered that if one is able to, then one should go to sleep it helps! However on a more serious note, learn to love yourself. Zero in on what you know you are best at. We are all multi-talented and it pays to know what you are good at-this way we come out shining in fields that others might know nothing about. Spend time with yourself and find out what you are good at and just be the best at it. It improves you self-esteem- and that is what is lacking when we are feeling that low.

Call your doctor and see if he or she can recommend a good psychiatrist who can more accurately diagnose you. Don't refuse medication... it does help. You may have side effects at first, but give your body at least a month to adjust. It is not going to get better overnight, but it will get better. If you start on something now and do as directed, you will probably feel much, much better by the end of summer! Good luck!

I had depression too. I had the same feelings. I went to a doctor and got medicine called lexapro. It really works great. I feel way way better now.
You should go to a doctor and try medicine. It isnt worth living that way. It is too hard to battle on your own. Just get the medicine you will see great results! You will get your life back again!

Best will be talk to your close friends who stick by you always.
If not you can join some depression support groups. Medication is always the last resort.

I suffered from depression all through my teenage and early adult years...Doctors put me on many kinds medication which by the way did not help...Then I would try to self medicate and that did nothing but strung me out...It wasn't until I turned my life over to the Lord and he brought me peace and love and I gave my depression to him and I never suffered from it again....I was unhappy with my self and my life and I thought I was not worth a poo. But God showed me who I was and what my worth is.......
