Well, the .270 is actually a Winchester loading so it is designated: .270 Winchester (not .270 Remington). It is available in Remington rifles and it is an excellent deer gun. YES, it WILL kill deer and is adequate for Elk and Moose when loaded with the heavier bullets. The .30-06 combo sounds like a better buy, since the .30-06 Springfield is adequate for ANY North American big game. That includes deer, Moose and Grizzly bear using the appropriate loading for your game.
The .270 will serve you well if you never hunt anything bigger than say Mule Deer. The .30-06 is a better all around rifle. Both are an overkill for coyote, but since you want to completely destroy the coyote (LOL!), either one will serve you well.
I have both but if I could only afford one it'd be the .30-06 scope combo. Savage makes a good rifle and that sounds like a decent scope.
Best.

Buy both. Never pass up the opportunity to buy an extra rifle.
The .270 is an excellent deer round. While it will kill large game animals, such as bear, you will need top notch accuracy. That Savage package is actually a pretty good deal. The 30-06 is a very versatile rifle. Use light weight bullets on your coyote and the heavy weights on larger game. I would be comfortable with the 30-06 on a Black Bear hunt. For the larger, more easily angered bruins, I think I would borrow my step son's .300 mag.

Ever think that maybe you should get a Remington SPS in 30-06 or .270? Savage makes a good gun, but why buy the nasty barrel collar gun. Get a Remington, or maybe even a Japanese-Weatherby(Vanguard). Never get drawn into buying a gun over a combo. You are buying a gun, not a package. Remington is a more rock solid piece than Savage. Savage bolts leave something to be desired. You get what you pay for, period. Watch out.
Oh, and Jack O'Connor might disagree with your buddy )if he were alove still) about .270. O'Connor claims to have hunted about everything North American with his favorite shell, the .270. Your buddy made an "Jack Barnes" statement.

The .270 will OBLITERATE a bear if you hit it in the heart. Better to hit it in the heart with the .270 than hit it in the balls with the .30-06. The .270 is a far more accurate caliber and better all around rifle. I'd buy the .270. A .270 will take just about any north american game animal.

If you spend a lot of time in country where the big brownies live, like Alaska, you'll want more than a 270. Of course, anything with a trigger instead of a lanyard may feel too small in some circumstances. For black bear, it's plenty of gun. I have more Remington 700's than any other model, and prefer them to several more expensive rifles in my gun case.

go with the 30-06. all a 270 will do to a bear is piss it off. the 30-06 may be a little too powerful for coyote though but i don't think it would completely destroy it. for you, i think the .308 might be a better choice overall. you should go down to your local gun dealer and tell them what you plan on doing. who knows, i may be dumb by telling you not to go with the 270. best of luck to you!

I would get the Remignton. It is very reliable anda great shooter. I believe I was the one that told you a .270 wont kill a bear. It will kill littel ones, but i dont want to try going after a grizzly with it. If you dont keep the hides then a .270 will be fine to shoot coyotes with, but if you do, then a .270 is overpowered.

Old Fuzz has the right idea!
But if you can only get one, get the Savage .30-'06, it is a better buy.
