1/3 c. applesauce = substitute equal amounts. What water? The applesauce is a substitute for one item... the oil. You don't eliminate anything. So if the recipe calls for water, use it.

Put in the same amount of applesauce as the oil. Dont chance any other ingredients or the cake will not come out.

use the same amount of applecause as oil is required, no added water because applesauce has water in it
