Because if we only had ONE Operational Carrier battle group... it could only be in ONE place at ONE time?
The Navy does some very expensive and highly technological things these days. Even more so than the Air Force it would seem. The Iraqis may not have a Navy but Iran does and if you haven't noticed for awhile there people were deadset that we were ramping up for war with Iran. Maybe we are... who knows for sure...
The Navy has planes they can use for air strikes and defense... all fancy stuff... and if you didn't know planes can be lunched off a boat and hit targets inLAND. So whether jihadis have a Navy or not really doesn't matter.
I agree that our Army troops and Marines need more equipment.... in the meantime you fail to note that there is an actual fear that the Air Force may not receive their pay checks in the coming months because they have been cut back in funding... some of that funding was moved from personnel accounts by the Pentagon... You didn't mention either that you've got Air Force guys out there on the ground in Iraq augmenting the Army.
So pretty much everyone's got it bad right now, but they Navy and Air Force usually get more money because they're designing, and maintaining, and using the mega technology, and that ain't cheap. A lot this technology benefits the guys on the ground greatly...
We just need to get them all home, then maybe we could afford to equip them properly.

Um last time i checked, many Army folks were sitting around on base eating Pizza Hut, maybe going out once or twice. The Navy on the other hand, has the Arabian Gulf to patrol; there are oil rigs and conducting searches (in fact it can be several hours each day) on anything that wishes to approach them, and searching for nefarious individuals trying to smuggle out pirated oil, so the Navy's job is a bit more than you think. Have you ever the pic floating around with a couple of towel heads on a jet ski, one holding an RPG or something? Ever hear what happened to the USS Cole? Maybe the threat is actually there.

The Army and Marines have all the funding they ask for, they just spend it stupidly. Secondly, the Navy can't be everywhere all the time. Those carriers, for instance, need two years down-time while they change out the reactor cores, which they do every decade. The smaller ships need to go into drydock at least once that often, and sometimes more. And thirdly, we still have Iran, China, and North Korea to worry about, and they do have missions in Iraq, too.

Nickle and diming the Navy is a very bad idea in this day. WWII might have had a much different outcome if all the US carriers had been destroyed on the first day. Had Germany in WWI had a more agressive and competent Navy, England might have been defeated in the first 6 months. Carrier groups project power without the need for foreign nations to agree to host airfields or ground forces in our support. They give the US indepence to do what is right and what is needed to defend ourselves.

No you are sad because you have no understanding of why most of the world is enjoying peace or at least what passes for peace now. It is those Carrier Battle groups all over the globe that no one can beat that keeps all the little two bit would be dictators from tearing civilization down.

Jihaddis are not th only threat. Take a look at the recent naval build up in the Chineese navy!! Just because there is no maritime threat now, does not mean there isn't one in our future. And I think we need to keep the straits of Hormuz open in addition to other sea lanes of importance.Furthurmore, war does not mean navy vs navy and army vs army etc. And the navy isn't just about ships either. Its about support, strike(air craft and TLAMs), amphibous ops, construction(seabees) etc.

The U.S. Navy.

Do you remember what happened to the USS Cole? Best not to keep all your eggs in one basket if you ask me. I would suggest rethinking your opinion.
