My niece was accidentally given paxil when she was 14 and she has no history of anxiety or depression, she was actually prescribed Zantac. She took it for over a month at a higher dose than adults take. She now suffers from chronic migranes. Does anyone know if this could be from the paxil? The people at Paxil just don't know or choose not to say what the damage could be long term.

Speak to a medical professional, NOT Y!A.
She will likely need to be weaned off paxil, however, as it causes violent & suicidal thoughts, particularly in young people.

Ask the pharmacist for the product insert for the medication she took. It will be in very tiny print. There is a part that tells possible side effects. Read these to see what it says.

The drug companies won't admit to anything because they are so afraid of being sued.

Also ask your doctor to refer you to a neurologist if he/she can't answer your questions

It is possible that the migraines are not from the medication. My daughter started getting migraines when she was 14.
Some things that help are drinking lots of water at the first sign of a migraine. Also caffeine and chocolate should be avoided.

I also took her to a neurologist to make sure her headaches were not symptoms of something else.

If your niece has severe pain, the doctor can give her medication (hopefully the right kind).

I will keep her in my prayers. I hope she will feel better soon.

You should never take a medication the was not Rx to you. You should have returned it to the pharmacy where you got it and told them of the mistake. It is extremely dangerous to take medications that are not prescribed to you. That is why it is so important to check the label before you leave the pharmacy. I use to take Pixel and the side affects are severe. I never developed migraines from it though. I use to get very short of breath, get chills and sweats, and rapid heart rate. I would go to the pharmacy and talk it over with them. Mistakes like this should never be made, because it could lead to in some cases death or severe illness.

Over the last five years I had begun to have increasingly withdraw into a downward spiral of depression..

But now with the method I can fully focus my energy and thoughts into a decisive line on how to make my life better constantly. And it works like magic! I'm beginning to attract people to me once again and things have just been looking up since then.

Helping you eliminate depression?

Non-depressed people taking a SSRI like Paxil, report no change. It just doesn't work. Anyway, it takes upwards of 2-4 weeks for it to show any effect.

perhaps it could be......but I doubt it.

Unless you can demostrate 'causality' you won't get a thing. The main serious side effect of teens + paxil was suicide. That is well-documented.

I'm not sure how Paxil and Zantac would get mixed up. They come in different dosages, don't have sound-alike or look-alike names, and ar not stored anywhere near each other.

As a pharmacist, I agree with Lea. In medication world, a month is an extremely small time to take something like this and the chance of it causing migraines is probably zero. Get another opinion from a neurologist.

Did you tell the pharmacy they were the wrong pills and you had a bad reaction? It's probably nothing, and I wouldn't give you anything.

I would call your local pharmacy. Most of them have the knowledge to let you know or they can look up the effects it might have.
