We have people prohibited from renting for legal things. Why is it discriminitory when people want only documented legal people in this country to be able to rent?

My husband and I have rental properties, and we make prospective renters fill out an application and submit to a credit check.
We also ask to look at their drivers license, and their social security card, examine it carefully, and photocopy it to include with the application. That weeds out illegals without having to come right out and ask them. They usually can provide a fake social security number, but cannot come up with a social security card. Same thing for drivers licenses.
We have also turned in people who have suspicious social security numbers to ICE.

edit: as for not wanting to be the immigration police, I also don't want illegals as renters. They are destructive, they will move 20 more people into a 3 bedroom house, despite being told that their lease is for X number of residents, they are difficult to evict, and when they finally are evicted from the property, they will absolutely destroy the house in retaliation.

The liberals including the ACLU would be all over a landlord if he used the illegal issue for refusing them, although he has the right for whatever reason.
The landlord could use the no smoking thing and get away with it because out of the twenty that are going to occupy the property, some of them are going to smoke(if they can steal the smokes from the local circle K) the liberals would not touch this as the no smoking thing is their doing.
Heavens sake you would not want the liberal living two blocks away to be inhaling second hand smoke.

your right. I'm a land lord, the only thing i ask is don't burn the place down. if you have pets and any damage that is done they will pay for it or will have to move. i know people smoke, how ever i will not rent to an illegal. I'm not going to jail and losing my place. the town in live in has a smoking ban, we are not to smoke with in 50 feet of any place of business. do you think the law enforces this new law? heck no, they are to busy pulling honest hard working Americans over. when they pull an illegal over with no license and insurance they do nothing. they are not allowed to take the car. they let the illegals go.

Some Americans are so willing to just hand this country over to people that are breaking our laws .

I am Democrat , but on this one issue , I disagree totality .
This country is a giving nation to a fault .
We want to help everyone , everywhere .
I for one , think you should help those who help themselves , but NOT , to our country .
What is wrong , about this group of illegal immigrants , they want to CHANGE our America .

They can't seem to change their country for the better .
They are invited here illegally , by American Corporations ( for their profit ) to break and ruin ours .
To make us a 3rd World Country .

<<"Pro-lifers" if we ban abortion, how should that ban be enforced?>> Obviously - any women who gets an abortion should be charged with murder. <> No. <> No. Miscarriages and abortions are two different things. <> That depends on the laws of the state in which said crime takes place. <> Anyone and everyone who has anything to do with procurring an abortion - anywhere and under any circumstance - should be punished.

It's about the almighty dollar. The greedy landlords who are just as crooked and underhanded as the illegals who steal social security numbers have a lot in common with each other. I think we should deport those who aid and abet illegals as well.

Be the change you wish to see in the world...start a revolution in YOUR OWN DAMN COUNTRY!!! THAT is one thing I would be more than happy to support.

I would say its great I hope all the states adopt this policy so the legals can have a few better choices at where to rent.

"Documented" is a word of liberal origin. When referring to immigrants who did not come here by legal channels, they should be called by what they are which are "illegal aliens".

Many of these illegals are criminals in their home country. Would you want to take a chance that the person that you rented the apartment to is a criminal?

As I've heard most in the renting business say, they are not nor do they want to be INS or ICE agents, they just say, thats not our job. But keep in mind, thats part of whats wrong with our country, to many say, thats not my job.

EXACTLY!!! They should be doing this for being loyal USA citizens on their own. If they don't they are no better than the companies who hire the illegal aliens!
