In my opinion spiritual is just being in tune with life around you and caring about it. And this causes the spiritual effect. It's the feeling of acceptance, of yourself and the world around you.

Considering it comes from being curious minded which leads to intelligence it is also the requirement to be science minded.

The religious peoples book is suppose to teach them about life also. Spiritual is a religious term describing what they are trying to acheive, the bible is the owners manual for getting there basically.

If both of you a least can be spiritual, would this be a bridge between the two that the human race might make it too somewhere down the road.

Your not going to wait another 2000 years to get there you?

Yes, an atheist can be spiritual. Believing in something beyond the physical is not the same thing as believing in a divine being.

Well, the way I define atheism (the absence of belief in a 'personal' 'creator' god) leaves plenty of room for 'other' spirituality.

So while I don't think the universe was made by some supernatural being that has an interest in everything we all get up to here on Earth, I don't discount the possibility of a 'pattern' to it all.

Certainly I believe in an overall unity between living things. After all, we are all made of the same stuff which was born in a star at the beginning of time and all incorporate atoms that were once part of our ancestors and the living things that came before us.

Sounds fairly 'spiritual' to me. As does what you have said.

Thank you.

Spirituality is caring for the soul, like doing meditations e.t.c. Many atheists believe that we don't have a soul. But some others believe only that "god" doesn't exists, but soul and/or reincarnation exist(i was this kind of atheist). So, a atheist of the second type can be spiritual.IMO, conventional religions (except Buddism and Hinduism) aren't spiritual. They do nothing to improve their soul.

I dunno about you definition but I consider myself both spiritual and an atheist!

Though here "agnostic" could be a better term then "atheist" to use, despite connotation of being "undecided".

I consider myself spiritual because I because in a universe greater than my own comprehension, and that actions and things can be considered good or bad fundamentally and not just subjectively(say relative to an observer). This would be a kind of spiritualism I think.

And yet I do not believe in a god, an afterlife or any of the speculative muck(To be fair I consider string theory in this category too, its too belief based and without evidence). I pretty happy with a sciencetic understanding of the world, it just fits best with the observable information available to me - god doesn't seem to fit.

Yes I am very so.

I put a question on similar question on and I do understand the world around me.
Unfortunately you get mad fanatical Christian and Muslims leaders who are hell bent on war.

I know in America, there is great money to be made in Evangelical programmes. god channels, all making a mint. Fortunately, in the U.K it don't happen here. In a way it is sad to see the churches closed and made into Mosques & luxury apartments.

so to be spiritual, you have to be Christian...that's what I'm getting from some of the answers. Total bull of course. You don't have to have religion to believe in having a spirit. Ever heard the term, strong spirit? Someone who is strong and unbending is said to have a strong spirit...religion has nothing to do with it.

well im not entirely sure on what you are trying to ask. however i am a form of Athiest i guess you could call it. I do belive that someone MIGHT have brought us here , or maybe it was through science , or earthquakes , or maybe we eveolved from fish ? or maybe we were created by a god. no one really knows for certain , so technically they say Athiest dont belive in anything . well i do belive in something. i belive in the fact that everyone needs to stop being dumb and act like they know whats going to happen when they die , when really no one knows. and we all need to wait and find out.

Not sure about this but I think Budhists are atheists by definition. There's is a philosophy not a religion and they don't believe in a God apparently, but believe in a higher state of consciousness and being so are spiritual.

According to the Bible everyone who does not believe in their
heart that Christ died for them and has not received salvation is spiritually dead. So it is impossible for them to be spiritual.
