It is deist that you describe. A god that creates the universe and walks away. It was frowned on as atheism is today. They did not see an active god in the world, but they did not have any other explanations for how the world began and "gods" had always been the unchallenged explanation.

I'd say you have it about right -Deist. I'm a Deist. It is a belief in a higher being or creator without the baggage of organized religion or theology that is man made. But it is monotheistic in the sense that the Deist belief is a belief in "one god".

I would say deist and even as an atheist I have no problem from a logical viewpoint with straightforward deism without any theology.

Dear Heart, As I understand it Deists believe God created everything and split. But go online and look up the definition.
