Honestly, I'm tired of hearing Americans on the Internet going off on one about how they 'saved' Europe in the Second World War.

In truth, the British, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, French and especially Soviet forces had been fighting for years before America even joined in. These are the countries which won the war. America helped, yes, but they didn't 'save' anyone.

The Americans saved thiss Country fro an invasion by Germany in WW2. when the B.E.F. were evacuated from Dunkirk, all that stood between Britain and a German invasion was our RAF. We had a shattered army, no equipment. the people were on starvation rations, and suffering the Blitz.Lend lease saved this Country enabling us to rearm well enough to fight back. Without American troops D Day were never have happened. The British alone were unable to put together enough man power to do this. The American troops also had the toughest landings on D Day and had very high casualties before they were able to break out. Canadians, and other Commonwealth troops were fighting in Denmark and the Australiand were fighting the Japanese and the French were already defeated and lost their Army.I remember how the Americans were very generous to the British people during the war, and afterwards.

Wow, how wrong can you get. Yes, they fighting for years, AND LOSING! British and Canada didn't have the industrial might or the huge population base that America did. France was torn into two countries, the occupied section and the German-aligned section. They lasted all of a month against the Germans. Australia and New Zealand had their hands full falling back against the Japanese. And the Russians were still flying open cockpit, cloth skinned trainers against the Germans until we started giving them aid.

The soviets were the only ally that stood a chance at defeating Germany, and the only thing they really had going for them was the terrible weather, vast terrain, and shear numbers of bodies they could throw at the Huns. If they had defeated the Germans single handedly, it's not like democracy would have flourished in Europe the way it did when we were done. In fact, Stalin sent more people to death camps than Hitler ever dreamed of.

If your tired of hearing about it on the net then stay off the net. That way you wont have to look like a fool trying to rewrite history in your own mind to justify your rediculous opinion.

Only an idiot would give a country that was occupied by the enemy more credit then the country that liberated it and gave much needed support for the war effort.

The U.S didnt fight or win the war singlehanded but we provided the push to change the outcome.

Why the U.S entered the war has no matter in this conversation and is for another. At the time I'm sure the allies really gave 2 sh*ts why we joined.

The fate of the second world war was decided by the outcome of Operation Barbarossa. The US saved europe from being entirely under the Soviet bloc. I'm an american, so what the problem is?

I am British an very proud of it. it has to be said that without the American intervention after pearl harbour the United Kingdom would probably have been an extension of the German empire. the Americans and the British and all the allied troops suffered countless loses during this terrible war we should not bicker over who did what or who won the war but instead pay tribute to those who did not return to fulfil their hopes and dreams. In the famous words of Winston Churchill " NEVER IN THE FIELD OF HUMAN CONFLICT WAS SO MUCH OWED BY SO MANY TO SO FEW"

Well, you've got your history blurred in your Union Jack:
1- True, British French forces were engaged from 1939. However your track record is one of continuous defeat, until 1942.
2- Without the US, Commonwealth forces would've been unable to sustain mechanized operations. All those Shermans, 1/2 tracks, artillery pieces, radios and ammunition you see in museums, came from across the pond
3- By the time, of the invasion of Europe, which British commanders wanted to delay indefinitely BTW, the VAST majority of infantry, armor, tactical and strategic forces were American
4- Soviet forces did engage the majority of German forces, however not until June 1941. Before then, they were essentially allied with Nazi Germany. (The primary reason Italy stayed neutral until June 1940, was disgust over the Nazi-Soviet Pact). So "especially" the USSR? Don't think so.
5- Your inclusion of Australian and Canadians shows you are somewhat hazy about Commonwealth military ops. The Australians withdrew themselves after November 1941 to defend Australia against the Japanese. They were out of the picture until early 1942, and then only in the Pac. The Canadians, didn't engage AT ALL, being held in reserve for an invasion of Britain. Canadian forces first op, was Dieppe in 1942, AFTER the US entered the war. Canadian naval and air forces didn't reach their stride until 1943. One year AFTER the US entered, and with great infusions of US equipment. Because the UK couldn't supply them.
6- Oh yeah, contrary to myth, the UK didn't "Stand alone" from July 1940 until Dec 1941. Czech, Polish, French, Norwegian contingents carried on the fight, and thanks to poor British strategic planning, brought Greece into the war-another ally. (If you don't think the Greeks still find this annoying, go ahead and start talking about "standing alone" in an Athens bar sometime.)
7- The most important issue. the US didn't HAVE to engage in Europe. Majority of US public opinion was to operate strictly against Japan, and leave you and the French to your own devices.

trouble with there claim is that did not declare war on Germany.Germany did declare war on the USA.many Americans did not want to go to war with Germany, only japan.Roosevelt was in a dilemma, did not know what to do so Hitler sort it out ,and declared war.the really turning point was the battle of Britain.if Germany had won that battle, they would have invaded Britain.and would have left them to fight Russia ,and in the first year they would have beaten Russia .and then turn on the yanks.the Germans already had designs for long range bombers that would go to America and back .they would have been a more of a match for America...because they where so far from any war zone there industry was untouched from japan and Germany ,you could argue that is what saved us really ,industrial might ..

Fascism has been much more than sustainable since the defeat of the Axis; it's been hugely successful. China and Russia are neo-fascist nations. President Cheney in the US [2001-2009] ruled as a neo-fascist. Islamo-fascism has EXPLODED, hence the French fighting against it in Mali, and the US aiding the Phillipine govt in fighting its long-term Islamo-fascist insurgency on the island of Mindanao, and Islamo-fascist Iran establishing a big base for its proxy, terrorist army, Hezbolla in PARAGUAY! [No typo.] Then there are the socio-fascist regimes of Rbt Mugabe in Zimbabwe, and Chavez in Venezuela.

If the American had not landed in normandy and relieved the Soviets Germany could have placed all their troops on the Eastern front and beat back the Soviets. French troops were completely defeated and many (Vichy french) even cooperated with the Germans. Americans supplied the Soviets keeping them from complete collapse. Russia was a great factor in winning world war 11 but in the end we found out we probably should have been fighting them since they have several thousand nuculear missiles aimed at us as I type. New Zealand, France, Canadiaen were never a real factor in war. Son, you been reading bad history or smoking some bad dope. Viet Nam vet infantry 101st Airborne Division 68/69.

Tell ya what, you light in the brain 'Mo! The next time it happens you & the powerful French Army (First to surrender & proud of it!) can do all the fighting solo. Too many American brothers never got to live their lives because the Euro Armies were VERY good at one manuever (Hands up, we surrender!) Remember the "Victory" at Dunkirk? That was a true work of beauty & you fools managed to lose all the French army & their equipment plus a third of the British army & nearly all their equipment-----all without ANY help from America. You're right, you Euro trash don't need any help from the US to screw things up, but if your freedom is on the line again, call the Russians. I'm sure they'd be a big help.
