When you find a cockroach in your soup in NYC it doesn't have a Damned thing to do with the last tip you left !!!
And, unless you are eating at a five star eatery there, most of the time to tip any more than 10% is to be giving someone Far more than they have actually earned -- let alone the fact that they treat you (in most cases) as if you are an imposition to their life when they have to "bother" with serving you !!

I think 20% is acceptable. NYC is an expensive city to live in and restaurant waiters depend on the tips. Also consider how well the service was overall. But i wouldn't go any lower than 15% unless the service truly sucked.

10 percent.
How was the service?
Were you happy?
Did they accommodate your request?
They say 15 percent. But it has to meet your standards.
I will tip 25 percent of great service. But you do not always get this. I also will walk with no tip when there is no service.
This is probably the best question of the week.
Can be debated for months, weeks and into the next millenium
Object to Sonic kids that want a tip Do you want your change is what they say.

You would probably find a cockroach in you lunch. Think about it, New York City is not a cheap city. Your best bet would be to tip at least 15 to 20%.

I think that is kind of low. I would go with 15-20% depending on the service. If the service was really bad, I would leave a poor tip, but explain on the back of the check why...

You tip after you eat so...............Also standard is 15% however tip what you can afford. I usually tip 20% if there good 5 % if ther horrible and 15% if mediocre If you slip a 20 or 50 you can get a great table. If it is a real popular place a 100 should get you in without waiting.

A 10% tip if the service was good would brand you as a no class rube or a general skinflint with no appreciation for how waiters earn their money.

10% is either cheap or the service was bad. Tip 15-20%.

I would be offended by a 10% tip.
It would make me wonder what I had done wrong.
Remember, servers make only only about $3/hr so your tip is how they make their money.
My theory is, if you can't afford to tip 15-20% then stay at home.
That is however subject to change if you receive horrendous service.

If the service is good, a 10% tip is not acceptable - if you can't afford to tip more, stick with self-service restaurants.
