Hi, I get severe pain on two spots in my lower throat area. It does NOT feel like a sore throat at all. I had a cold for a while with sore throat and cough but this is different. It feels as if 2 little ping-pong balls are stock in my throat. I have absolutely no pain on the top section of my throat, only on the bottom. Does any one have an idea what it may be? I have seen my physician twice in the past 2 weeks for the cold I had…Already KNOW that I should check with her again.

You've been to your doctor twice and she hasn't diagnosed it. Ask for a referral to an ENT (General Otolaryngology).

Has your doctor considered "mono"? Are any of the other symptoms present?...

One viral infection takes much longer than a week to be cured: infectious mononucleosis, or "mono." This virus lodges in the lymph system, causing massive enlargement of the tonsils, with white patches on their surface and swollen glands in the neck, armpits, and groin. It creates a severely sore throat and, sometimes, serious breathing difficulties. It can affect the liver, leading to jaundice— yellow skin and eyes. It also causes extreme fatigue that can last six weeks or more.

Here are some facts about tonsillitis...

Tonsillitis is an infection of the lumpy tissues on each side of the back of the throat. In the first two to three years of childhood, these tissues "catch" infections, sampling the child's environment to help develop his immunities (antibodies). Healthy tonsils do not remain infected. Frequent sore throats from tonsillitis suggest the infection is not fully eliminated between episodes. A medical study has shown that children who suffer from frequent episodes of tonsillitis (such as three- to four- times each year for several years) were healthier after their tonsils were surgically removed.

I hope you feel better soon.

Those two ping pong balls are your glands and they swell up during infections/colds etc. Nothing to be concerned about, if your Doc has already checked them and wasn't concerned then it just confirmed that you have a COLD. Stop panicking - swollen glands are perfectly normal!

probably a lil dehydrated. Drink a huge glass of water then drink some tea with lemon and honey in it. Stay away from caffiene for a few days. ;)
