SOMETIMES. Sometimes a mother's love is unconditional. But I'm going to take a great leap, from my long experience. The only unconditional love I have ever seen has been with a cat--or cats. Non-judgmental, not demanding or critical, never scrappy or "moody," sensitive, nurturing, patient & very, very wise. Some will disagree with me, & that's okay. Much has to do with how I have "bonded" with my cat. Humans are so unpredictable; their destructive emotions simply aren't part of a cat's nature. A cat's total honesty & lack of manipulations.
I'm delighted you feel this way about your mother. Yet in general, mothers can be the worst thing that can "happen" to you. Most of my clients have mother issues. So! Be happy! & Happy Mother's Day to your mother!

Yes, I believe Love is the underlying mystery of life. The problem is... there are a lot of conditions that people attach to Love, which corrupts it. A mother's love is about as close to pure, unconditional love that one can receive.

The realization of unconditional love should not be confused with 'like' or any ideas that it means a consistant staight of serene pleasentries. LOL!
I have unconditional love for all creation but I don't like everything that goes on here. I also love myself and have a healthy sense of self-preservation, so I pick and choose my battles whenever possible. It is preferable to loose the battle even walk away from it if it means winning the war.
So unconditional love for all means unconditional love of self as well. That's not always easy. Unconditional love overides everything. It is also tough love. I understand that one all too well. I have children and my oldest in particular is putting me through an emotional hell. Oh, nothing too dramatic, profoundly painful.
Anyway...I just take it one day at a time...I look at pictures of when he was little and focus on that deep and abiding love I have and will always have for him and let it all wash away. Then I let go...I remember that the love I have for him asks nothing in return...it simply 'is'. Of course I hope very much that one day he will reconnect with that love and embrace it but for now, I have to let it be.
It is hard being a parent. It is hard to watch humanity distroying itself and the great garden of life we were blessed with. A feirce place, but not without greatness and beauty.
Humanity is a recless species given to running away into its fantacies. I feel very angry at the way humanity is reclessly throughing it all away and taking so many into extinction with it. It is not to late. There is forgiveness. The land, the earth will heal if we stop now, humanity will heal if we focus on healing...but will we?
That is the tragedy of love... to watch the distruction, to see the course of events even to know the possibles and not be able to turn the tide or be heard. To do everything you can and yet as if it is nothing, all simply 'is'.
That is unconditional love.
One of our regulars here changed his name to 'Itsimplyis' and it really is...peace and unconditional love for all.
I don't undestand why you see love as a mystery...I realy don't. There is nothing mysterious about it. In fact it is the least secretive and most honest of emotions. Romantic love is hormones, I mean real love. It is like a constant, a rock, air, a life staight...I don'tr get you guys. It does not exclude other emotions, it just remains undernieth them in the moment of raging storms. It never leaves. This whole thing is rather a shock to me. You guys realy don't have that? Come on! This is just semantics right? Right?
Panic attack in progress....OMG!

Short answer, yes. Do you want the long answer?
What we need, of course, is a wide enough definition of Love, so that it can embrace (all puns intended) even people you never meet. Once you can use a word like Love to include all humanity, and have compassion for those who suffer, admiration for those who do right, and are brave in the battle against the forces of evil (defense against the dark arts is a necessary part of love, you know), then you have opened up the concept of Love to be everything that life is about.

No.
Many times, a person can be more philophosical than what's necessary.
This is one of them.
There is no 'underlying mystery of life'.
The Bible has told us all we need to know about life.
Why and who created it, and what the great finale will be.
