On Tuesday of last week I woke up with this extreme burning sensations behind my breast bone. My family decided it was most likely just heart burn, and gave me and antacid and told me it will go away all on it's own. It is now Sunday and this feeling has yet to go away. I am unable to eat any food because as it travels to my stomach once it reaches that spot behind my sternum it causes extreme discomfort. I went to the doctor and he prescribed me some medication(I have yet to pick it up) I can't swallow any pills though and I haven't eaten a real meal in 3 days now. Any suggestions?

I really think you should go to the ER now! They will probably give you a GI cocktail which will numb things pretty good. If you still have the pain after the GI cocktail, then there's a pretty good indication it could be something else other than heartburn or GI problems.

Good luck!

This should not be, even if it is heart burn. Pick up the prescription ASAP - if you do not get any relief head for the ER. Do not waste time. Regardless of your age - do not let anyone tell you you are to young for a cardiac episode - THIS IS NOT TRUE !! I am an EMT and see young people try to ignore this type of thing all the time and unfortunately some are very wrong. I am only speaking from experience -so please do not go another day assuming it is heart burn.
