My 2 year old has a musty smell under his arms. Is there medically wrong, should I have him tested?Or is this normal for some kids and if so what can I do to combat this problem? He's had this problem since he was a baby.

Though it's not all that common for children that age to have odors, it's not completely uncommon. If he's been getting his regular check ups and your doc. doesn't see a problem, try dove for sensitive skin, it's the best thing out there. It's important that you speak with his ped. about this cuz it could be an underlying problem. Other than that, try to keep that area as cool and dry as possible. If you don't want to put dove on your son, try using a little baking soda.

There are rare inherited disorders associated with unusual body odors. If your child is developing normally, there is probably little to worry about.

Sometimes urine chromatography can determine the cause. I would recommend this if the odor is noticable and offensive to others. The urine specimen has to be collected and stored under careful conditions (usually frozen immediately), so be sure you have specific instructions before getting this relatively expensive test.

I would say thats ok. As long as he is bathed regulary I wouldn't worry excessively about it. You may want to mention it to his pediatrician on his next visit but I wouldnt recommend any deodorant for him. You may try some baby powder to see if that works.
