Don't they realize leaving law abiding citizens without the means to defend themselves from criminals is wrong?

The have no concept of history and don't understand why the Founder put the 2nd Amendment in the bill of rights.
A quote from the link below, from the 1st sentence of it's conclusion.
"English history made two things clear to the American revolutionaries: force of arms was the only effective check on government, and standing armies threatened liberty."
Today you could substitute standing armies with criminals and the people who think firearms should be band would be forced to tell you that they just don't want you to have a gun... for any reason. Long live the 2nd Amendment! ;~)

Oh, that's simple. It's because some people are hopeless idealists that think that criminals will magically obey a law if it's "good" enough. The rest of us know that NOT obeying the law is the very definition of criminal.

Because some people are simple minded. It is far more easy to blame an inanimate object than it is to blame the person using it. As a mater of fact I am surprised to hear that these simple people don't want to ban cars, alcohol, or running shoes these items have killed far more people than guns have.

These kind of people can care less, and they will be first ones to call for armed help, if they were robbed, or under the gun for some reason.Threre is no sense in arguing with these people, it is just like talking to the wall.

Many people feel that the prevalence of guns in society is the reason for so many gun related crimes. While it's technically true, people who wish to pursue illegal activity will use what is availible to them, whether it's a banned item or not.

No they don't understand that, they believe that all people are "good" and that only the items used cause the harm.
But since cars kill more people every year, why are they not wanting to ban them

You have the right to firearms, until it becomes a problem and the laws need to adjust to wackos killing people in schools and going nuts period. If people abuse their rights, then I believe something needs to be done so that guns don't get in the wrong hands. Especially kids hands!
