Generally speaking they are no more happy or unhappy than anyone else although "Christian" America has higher rates of stress related illness than secular western Europe.

The average PERSON, whether he calls himself a Christian or an Atheist or a Hindu or whatever, does not go round constantly thinking about their professed religion or lack of it. Most people just get on with their lives to the best of their ability. All people have their happy times and their not so happy times. It doesn't have anything to do with their religion. Just live your life and if it is part of your thing, go to church on Sunday. Let other people also have the right to choose their way.

I don't know if I qualify as average but I am happy. It took me getting over the idea of a god to achieve happiness. I hope you don't take that the wrong way because I'm not trying to upset you.

Personally, I'm DRIVEN to know why. Why am I here? Why was my father abusive? Why do bad things happen? The questions I was plagued with were endless. I couldn't find the answer in religion, there are too many of them and none of them answered my questions to my satisfaction.

I finally achieved inner peace when I accepted that there isn't a god. I stopped looking for answers in superstition and started looking within myself. As soon as I was able to be completely honest with myself, all the gods disappeared.

Saying that is a believer is happier than a non-believer is saying nothing more than saying that a drunk man is happier than one who is sober.

I as an atheist find happiness in the fact that I stand out for the truth rather than what is convenient.

I'm not. But I have a lot of things going on right now causing depression. I live 4 thousand miles away from my fiance, I'm waiting to be accepted to a college in another country, and I have a lot of bills to pay off. But hopefully that'll all change pretty soon.

That would greatly depend upon how one defines the word Happiness. I watched the program on Faith airing on ABC 20/20 and they had a segment on Atheism and most if not all Atheist stated, they were happy.

Like everyone else, I can't speak for anyone else except myself. Yes I'm a very happy person. I can't understand what going, or not going to church has to do with happiness.

The average atheist is just as genuinely happy as the average Christian.

Happiness has nothing whatsoever to do with what religion you are- if anything, people of no faith are happier because they have one less burden to carry.

What a daft question ! Every one believes in something :what they do ,there children ,themselves ,people etc.
Just becauase they do not have religious beliefs does not make them any differrent ,well maybe a little different as there beliefs are grounded in reality
