would it make enough of a dent in the oil producers income for that day to threaten them, and have them change whether it be price reduction or searching for other cheaper alternatives ?

It's a decent idea in principle, but in practice it won't do squat. Sorry. See the link below to Snopes to find out why!

One day would not do enough. people would just realize it and stock up on the days before & after, and they wouldn't lose anything. I think the real problem here is not the price of fuel or the oil companies, its the problem of the environment in general. Burning fossil fuels is very harmful to the environment, resulting in global warming, acid rain, and air quality problems. People do not seem to realize that the prices are so high not because of the oil companies but because of the reckless use of the American public and the rapidly decreasing supply. People leave cars on for 20+ minutes for no reason and waste all that gas. People drive huge SUVs even if theres only one person inside. It doesn't make sense. Everyone's concerned with the prices, but no ones concerned with the fact that we could destroy the Earth in a short amount of time if we continue to do what we're doing. In my opinion, thats a bigger problem.

No its called global warming promotion and paying for the terror war, Look we use the same amount of fuel as we did 5 years ago but the tax has never changed, so the government is making 3 times the money. So the illusion is fear, "running out of oil. global warming, corn fuel" its all BS. Fear is the enemy and its not working people are still doing the same things it not more than they did 20 years ago, turn off the TV, turn off the computers, don't by papers, stop going to church, bars, stop drinking beer, smoking, we we all stop doing all the stuff that makes them money, then they will be forced to change, hell even stop eating as much will cause them to panic, hell even better just stop going to work, we would win, but it would be scary.

No, not really. What if someone is drowning, do you want rescuers riding on bicycles or a house catching on fire and rescuers saying "there wasn't a way to drive" as an excuse? Did you know there are ships out in the ocean, not being able to do much but float around till the next day comes by... hmmm. It would cause many problems if you think about the world.

There have been many proposals of "not buying gas on xxxday" but they seldom add that we should avoid consuming any "power" or even "reduce" our consumption for that day. Sidney, Australia recently held a citywide program where they turned off all non-essential light for one night. It really IS a brilliant idea. People often look at it as "what can one person do?", whereas we should look at it as "if I do this, and if thousands of other people did it, it could make a dent, even if a small one."

This is one of the silliest ideas I have heard and apparently I have to hear it at least once every year. To answer your question: No, it will have no effect people will still need to drive, and they will still need to buy fuel, they will just buy it some other day. There will be no effect on the cash flow of the fuel business, it will just happen on another day. If you want to have an effect, you must find some way to reduce fuel demand systemically, not just for one day.

It would make no difference at all. One day is nothing. I don't fill up my car with gas every day. There have even been some days when I didn't drive my car at all. But I am not willing to stop using electricity for a day, because the food in my refrigerator would spoil if I did that.

Aleric my anwser is No, reason is people are going to get on road no matter what, whether its going to work, picking someone up somewhere, or just going out to have fun. The price of fuel will be the same. Josh from Sarasato, FL

One day? Not really, it will make them think, but they know everyone will need fuel the following day and many stations will have record sales (defeating the day of no sales)

But if everyone after that one day reduced their consumption by 10% there would be a wake up in the industry!

First of all, "WE'RE THE NATION" but we don't own the nation, somebody else does. We could make America the cleanness country in the entire planet but is prohibit and is supported by ignorant intellectual dishonesty criminals across the entire nation.. see www.santanaeffect.com and know the truth.
