My mom passed away a few years ago, she was a good mom. However my wife will not be celebrating mother's day. Her mother was an abusive bully throughout her childhood. She constantly told her she was useless and compared her to her siblings.
She was constantly picking on her, criticising her and made her do household chores, shopping and cleaning while her brothers did nothing in the house. she never once kissed or hugged her praised her, or told her she loved her. I am suprised that my wife has turned out as sane or balanced as she has done, considering the lack of emotional warmth from her mother. But she has had a lack of self esteem for a long time.
A very good question, which I had thought about posting. Not everyone will be celebrating Mother's Day today.

My cousin won't celebrate this day; her only daughter and 18-month-old granddaugher were killed in a car accident just months ago.
Her son and his wife are expecting their first child now, so next year there will be much to celebrate and her pain will have lessened.
We're all looking forward to next year.

I dislike the day because my mum makes it difficult to do anything nice for her. She criticses almost everything and then I have to face the extended relatives who are even worse. However I still make the effort. Usually, when things are not so intense we can have a better time.

that would be me. i don't like to celebrate. i don't feel like a good mom and if i just let the day go by i won't be disappointed at the fact that my two oldest boys are disrespectful to me.

I probably shouldnt say this but, i'll be honest. I dont like it much. My mum was a real let down in my life -alcohol, abuse, no support or love & she was selfish. I make an effort but, i dont want to.
