I own a shop, and you should check the oil sending unit, as they are bad to get cracked, and/or break causing a pretty bad leak. Check the valve covers, and more importantly, check the PVC to make sure it has enough vacuum on it, as it could be plugged up with carbon and not have any vacuum on it. Put a new PVC valve in it, as that will help. When an engine is allowed to build up pressure inside, it will push oil right past all the seals & gaskets, and on to the ground. We find a leak by wiping down the entire engine, or using an engine cleaner, and putting it on a rack with it running. That way we can see where the leaks are, and determine what to do to fix them.
Glad to help out, Good luck!!!

If it is leaking a lot of oil, just get underneath with a flash light and see where it is coming from. If you have to, run the motor while inspecting. If there is oil all over the place, wash the hell out of it, dry it off, and then run and check it. When you have a large oil leak, it is fairly easy to determine where it is coming from. Pressurized oil points would be the most likely. Oil filter, filter adapters, oil cooler lines, oil pressure sending unit or fittings, oil pump drive, and/or front and rear main seals. Good luck.

I honestly have a bad worry that with the automobile being already 17 years previous, having the transmission rebuilt will probable fee greater advantageous than the automobile is nicely worth. Its conceivable your linkage may be a sprint sloppy, and that could fairly be tightened with some new cotter pins and tightening each thing up. the proper answer i could furnish to you is locate somebody inner maximum who works on vehicles on the area (and make constructive s/he's relied on via a private source) to work out in the event that they might placed a secondhand transmission into your automobile. you're able to be waiting to locate one the two at a junkyard, or probable there may be a secondhand automobile areas broking on your area. i've got have been given a hunch that an excellent form of distinctive vehicles had an identical transmission (understanding how GM handles their areas), so looking one should not be like looking a needle in a haystack. with a bit of luck this helps you out--Lotsa success :~)

Oil pan gasket, head gasket and block for cracks.
Make sure the filter has a clean, smooth mating surface and do NOT over tighten. It will "warp" the gasket and will not seal. Same with pan plug.
