Yes too much can be bad for you, end up constipated. The concept is that instead of having 'white' bread in a lunchtime sandwich you have 'brown hi fiber bread'. Instead of having fries, you have a jacket potato and eat the skin. Instead of having cereal for breakfast, you eat bran flakes, or bran.
However it is all about balance because I know I cannot keep eating bowl of bran every morning everyday for the rest of my life, so skip the breakfast but have brown hi fiber bread at lunchtime. I try to find a Pizza made with wholemeal flour, as it contains fiber.

Dietary fiber is good for you. There IS such a thing as "too much of a good thing".

Fiber keeps us regular. It gives us carbs that don't hurt us. It is recommended to add fiber to your diet if you are dieting.

Do a google search for dietary fiber and how much dietary fiber and find the articles that appeal to you to read.
