I've seen it mentioned several times in the Religion & Spirituality category. Sure, I could do a search, but I want your personal touch. What is the banana argument, and what is it supposed to prove?

At one time Kirk Cameron, the former child actor and now evangelical christian, came out and said that creation was proved because of the design of the banana - it's five sided to fit a human hand perfectly.

He was on Nightline the other night as one of the defenders of the christianity vs atheism debate and it is all stemming from that. That's pretty much all I can say since I didn't watch the debate.

You know..I seem to recall someone on yahoo answers making this same argument that the banana had to be a creation of god because it fit the hand so well. I wonder if Kirk Cameron stole the idea?

in youtube, search:

banana ray comfort
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLqQttJinjo

basically, he says that the banana is proof of god's existence... it's a perfectly designed fruit

nonslip surface, perfectly fits the hands, soft, chewy, easy to digest, etc.

he didnt know that the domestication of the banana plant have rise to this "perfect" fruit... the original banana is fat and seedy.. not to mention, some types of banana are too starchy to eat without cooking.

To paraphrase:

"What a piece of work is a banana!
how noble in shape!
how infinite in beauty!
in form and being how express and admirable!
in colour like an angel!
in taste like a god!
the beauty of the world!
the paragon of fruits!

It's probably coined by creationists like Kent Hovind(Uneducated jackaS$es), who promote falsehood about evolution and ask scientists to prove that banana can evolve out of a flower or something else.

Similar to that but it's the creationist argument, and as you expect, it lacks pre-school intelligence.
