Mine distracts me to the point where I have to turn it off when it's raining really hard or traffic gets really bad, so I'd have to say it's very possible.

It can. If it makes so much noise that you can't hear what's going on around you that you end up hitting something, or not hearing a train, or...something. Basically if it's distracting.

Also, it can cause an accident (it almost has in several cases with me...) when you fiddle around with sound adjustments while you're driving down the interstate at 70 MPH...and you end up careening into the other lane or into the ditch.

i assume you mean loss of hearing. like anything else that has sound you have to be care with the volume levels and the distance at which you listen.
