I took some ambien for sleep and it made me sick. It's never done that before.

Just about any medication can make you sick depending on the circumstances. Maybe you hadn't eaten in quite a while And your stomach was very empty, the medication hitting an empty stomach can often cause nausea.

Eat a banana before taking the pill the next time. This will coat the stomach and also provide potassium which can have a good relaxing affect on the muscles.

If you are a regular user of ambien and have used it more than the guidelines the drug manufacturer gives of maximum 2 - 4 week usage, then you may be experiencing rebound withdrawal. The half life of ambien is 1 - 2 hours. It is extremely short acting. A lot of people find that after an hour or 2 after taking it they are wide awake and getting all sorts of strange symptoms, like agitation, anxiety etc, also during the day as well. Nausea is another common withdrawal side effect.
That is the only explaination I can think of, if you have taken it before with no problems but suddenly start getting side effects from it.
The other alternative is that the nausea is not related to ambien.
